Complete Scoundrel Crossbow Bayonet Alternatives

First Post
I have been reading Complete Scoundrel and love the idea of the crossbow Bayonet. Ever since I saw the picture of the Thief Acrobat in Complete Adventure I have wondered how I would pull this off and now WOTC gave me the details.

I like the idea and am not trying to start a would you allow it thread though it may become one anyway. What I want to know is this. If it is possible to attach a weapon to your crossbow would you allow a player to attach a wand there as well? Personally I would attach a wand of Grease. But that is because I play a rogue. You could attach a wand of magic missile or fireball if you want your crossbow to have a grenade launcher like the M203 on the M16. But any wand could be placed on there, Glitterdust, Cure X Wounds, Hold Person or Web.

Would this be possible? Would you allow it or not? How would this work? How !&#$ awesome would it be to go into combat with one? I just want to get a feel from the players/DM community if it is something worth working out or not and if it is what kind of rules should be in place to make it work. Already I think it would still rule all of the standard operations of using a wand. Spellcaster or person with UMD, provokes AoO’s ect. What else would I need to consider if it was even allowed at all.

I was just happy to see the crossbow bayonet 'cuz it gets me one step closer to full attack with a crossbow...

Step 1: Get +1 throwing, returning bayonet'd crossbow
Step 2: fire crossbow
Step 3: hurl crossbow/profit?

Anything that makes a crossbow cooler and more useful to higher-level PC's is okay by me. Anything that makes rogues more fun (not necessarily more effective) in combat is double-plus okay to me.

I'd just be weary of repeating crossbows with attachments.

Those things have got to be unwieldly as it is. And if you give them wands as well, then you've got the M4A1, with the M203 (the M9 is bad enough).

You just sold me on crossbow + fireball wand.

My mage has been running around with a Heavy Crossbow with a wand of Lesser orb of Acid under slung and wands of True Strike and Blessed Aim on the sides for a while now.

Something for every occasion, toggle a wand, get a bonus.

It's funky and I've yet to notice any unbalancing effects...

Have a little look at the Deathwand Crossbow in the Arms & Equipment Guide. It's under Specific Magic Weapons, and essentially it's a +2 Light Crossbow that has slots for two wands (wands can be swapped in as a move action), and the wielder of the crossbow is considered to be wielding both wands as well as the weapon, and can use them all normally. A snip at just over 10k gp.

Dungeonscape has new things you can built into your weapons & armor. One of those things is a wand holder. Holding the weapon also means you've got the wand ready.

It's a good book.
