(completely OT) I finally got a console, PS2, and I have no idea what to get for it.

A must own game for everyone!

And I do like DOA2 over Tekken 4/Tag :D

TTT and T4 are rather different, and I believe the general consensus among Tekken fan is T4 was a step down from T3/TTT.

Virtua Fighter 4 is supposed to pretty good as well, haven't played it myself yet however.

Soul Calibur 2 will be out for all three consoles some time next year. Definitely something to look out for. Or you can go playi it in an Arcade right now.

For fighting games, if you don't mind 2D stuff, Guilty Gear X (Plus) is wonderful, assuming there's a US version.

There is ad it's for the PS2, the DC died before GGX made it across the Pacific.

Capcom vs. SNK 2 is a good game as is Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the PS.

Originally posted by Zappo Oooh, there are so many great PS2 games! That's why we bought a PS2 instead of an xBox, what's the point of having a console with superior graphic hardware if the only good games it runs are Halo and DoA3?

Jet Set Radio Future, Shenmue 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta. These three alone are worth the price of the system. JSRF and Sega GT 2002 (or 1 or 0) are now packed in with the Xbox now (for $200).

I advise against Zone of the Enders, it may be worth a rental but don't bother buying it.

Everyone should play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, whatever version you get. THPS3 is out now and relatively cheap, but THPS4 will be out soon.

If you've never played Final Fantasy games before, I'd recommend Final Fantasy X. If you have played them, you can safely skip X, it's just more of the same, IMO. That said, I definitely enjoyed FF10 more than 7, 8, or 9.

(Oh, and to the person who complimented the sad ending... don't get the gaidens ever, you'll be disappointed I think)

If you're looking for PSX games, I strongly recommend Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. One of my favorite games ever. It's a shame they haven't made another PSX/PS2 version yet, I really don't like the GBA... handheld systems make my eyes and head hurt.

For PS2, I haven't played much since I don't have one yet either ( :( ). However, I had a lot of fun playing Dark Alliance, and GTA3 provides hours of meaningless fun.

On the whole though I can't really say I've found a PS2 game that has really wowed me like SOTN or Chrono Trigger. Get what you like :)

Re: Zone of the Enders relayability... I love doing verses games, actualy. I'm just in love with the combat in that game, though, is the thing.
Heh, I see. Combat is really the reason for which I like that game. Still, I think you'll agree about the "more enemies" bit - or, in general, more 'bots.

Well, I use my PS2 for FFX and a short stack of classic PSX RPGs, so I don't think it's that unreasonable to use my Xbox for a DVD player (it's a much better DVD player than the PS2), sports games, anything cross-platform, and DoA3.
I'm curious about this: how is the xbox a better DVD player? Do you mean in terms of usability/features, or image quality?

Gah! I forgot Rayman 2! Great game that should be cheap now. As should Resident Evil Code: Veronica (despite the name I still forgot the code at the end of the game, how embarrassing).
