The good ol' Game Boy Advance, almost outselling the Playstation 3, hehehe... (Not that I inherently dislike PS3, but still...)

Is the top 10 all they have for games, though? There must be more to the story if Nintendo is hammering the competition in console sales, but much less so in software sales, or at least that is what it looks like to me based on only the top 10...

Yeah these are all the numbers in the story, which was more an industry assessment than anything.

Basically, video games made 815 million in May, up 49% from last year, and most of that was hordware (console) sales, which are up 79% over this time last year.

Of course, this time last year the PS3 and Wii weren't out, and the DS was impossible to find, so there you go.

I'm surprised the PSP is doing so well. Then again, I haven't been using mine so that could simply be my ignorance at play.

Well- the price just dropped, there's some great looking games for it, and last time I popped into Gamestop they had a TON of UMDs priced pretty low to clear them out.

Honestly, Ive considered getting one myself, but Im sort of leaning the 360's way for my next bout of conspicuous consumption.

Even though an X-Box (the original) and a ton of cut-rate games would probably be a better deal.

Well, Nintendo did have four of the top-five sales spots, so I think they're still coming up ahead of Microsoft. Based on these numbers, Sony is simply getting stomped, not just on the hardware side. It appears their customers just aren't buying games. So part of the story is that Nintendo isn't really competing against two others on the software side, they're only facing one. That helps.

And in Japan not even that, since the 360 doesnt do well there. In May, Nintendo had the top 20 selling games in Japan.

Here's the current US console game sales:

1. Tomb Raider: Anniversary (PS 2)
2. Forza Motorsport (360)
4. God of War (PS 2)
3. Opera Web Browser (DS)
5. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
6. GTA: Vice City (PS 2)
7. Call of Juarez (360)
8. Pokemon Pearl (DS)
9. NHL 07 (360)
10. Spider-Man 3 (PS 2)

Looks like in America its still PS 2 lol.

Japan looks like this:

1. Medicara (DS)
2. Resident Evil 4 (Wii)
3. Oendan 2 (DS)
4. Guilty Gear (PS 2)
5. Wii Sports
6. Brain Age 2 (DS)
7. New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
8. Wii Play
9. Otono no DS (DS)
10. No 10th game listed for some weird reason

Say what? Two games more than a couple years old and an almost year old sports...check that...hockey game? That's just odd...

I am surprised that they are still selling Game Boy Advance in high volume. Isn't is hard to even find new games for this handheld?

There's still new games being made for it. Also, as I have discovered since getting my DS, there are a TON of good games around for it. Like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy VI Advance, which I have bought to play on my DS.
