Conversion: Litterally or with a Grain of salt

Also, don't forget that NPCs only have a CR equal to their level if they are equipped with the appropriate amount of gear.

For example, a 2nd level NPC fighter isn't really CR 2 unless you equip him with the appropriate amount of gear (900 gp worth IIRC). If he's wearing padded armor and carrying a club (or whatever), you will have to tweak the XP awarded.

I prefer to play things by ear, rather than relying on fixed formulae. Speaking of which, isn't it impressive that my estimate of the level for the F/T/M was so close to what's in the book? I am just too cool.
Yep. :)

Good point. :)
BTW, speaking of monetary issues, the treasures in Night Below need some major tweaking lest they flood your campaign. A good start might be, say, dividing all treasures by 10 or so... :D

That's *definitely* true. The thing is that it was designed to use the silly "1 gp = 1 XP" optional rule, so it was loaded up with treasure to get the PCs advancing at a decent rate.

Ahh so i am probably going to have to reequip some of the NPC's. Some have enough loot on them that it makes sense. Others do not. The treasure is too much? I will see how the money influence comes into play and see what happens.

Also impostant in considering monetary treasure is that gold became worthless at some point in earlier editions, as you generally couldn't buy magic items. When we converted our old 2e party, there was over half a million gp floating around (median party level = 16). Now that magic items are generally buyable, gold is much more powerful.

well the pc's are going to have access to a town to buy and sell stuff so that won't bother me..converting a million gp inventory won't bother me too much..hell i plan on keeping the gold as it stands, the easiest way to get it away from them is for them to spend it on items. I can make those items cost allot and that's what i plan on doing. cest la vie...

other than that I must look at the conversion of the aboleths as they are wizards first, priests second. I think i am going to have to sacrifice the priest levels' to tone them down from CR 33 to CR 25. A CR of 25 is still bad to the bone!
