Conversions

Are your PC's playing the roles of the Companions? If so, how is Raislin being played?

Actually not - they are playing Forgotten Realms characters who got send to dragonlance through a portal because the original heroes of the lance got murdered with the help of another god, time travel and some other fluff. In my campaign bahamut=paladine and tiamat=takhisis. So she used the gates on the forgotten realms to travel back in time after her loss against the heroes to make sure that won't happen (again). Paladine now knows that and with the help of a greater god will prevent future abuse of that. Bahamut tried to ressurect the heroes and send them back, but couldn't because the souls had been stolen and brought to dragonlance. There, the good gods have not yet returned and so no actions could be taken. our poor cleric and the paladin are not able to use any powers with the divine or healing keyword until the they read the discs... and our paladin wonders why bahamut transformed his looks into that of a human.. well they will find out soon as the story unfolds. all going well - the elves scouting solace for informations - rest of the party securing the blue crystal staff. Its pretty interesting for the players so far. another world, a unknown story, gods asking for their assistance. they like it so far. Onyx is an 11th level black dragon. think they won't like that :D

argh - i got carried away ^^

I'm going to start converting Expidition to Castle Ravenloft in the near future; Open Grave will hopefully make this mostly painless.

I don't know if I should bother writing up conversion notes; would anybody else actually benefit from that? Or even, heaven forbid, want to collaborate towards it?

I am completely converting Paizo's Rise of the Runelords adventure path to 4th Edition, and offering all of the conversion materials on a running blog. As of tonight, the first two adventures in the path (Burnt Offerings and The Skinsaw Murders) will be completely converted. Work will start on The Hook Mountain Massacre next week. The conversions include full 4th Edition stats for all monsters presented in the adventure path's bestiaries, including those which aren't used in the adventure itself.

You can find the blog at Tales from the Rusty Dragon.

Wow, I may have to buy back some of the 3.5 adventures I sold. My bet was that no one would be interesting in converting stuff to 4e (I'm glad to be wrong).

I was thinking the rules were so different that conversion was pratically impossible.

On the contrary. Conversion is cake. All it requires is an understanding of the two systems' mechanics, 4th Edition design philosophy, and a little bit of time (as it turns out, much less time than would be required to make your own adventure).

I think everything can be converted but that sometimes significant changes make some conversions so substantially different that it is harder to think of it as in the same spirit as the original. Nevertheless, a good adventure or rule is almost always worth converting if only because the bedrock on which you build is strong.

Let's also use this thread to note some fairly obvious conversions norms. Something simple to start off might be to venture some opinions on when to definitely utilize minions (from specific edition or games, no doubt), for instance. Any thoughts?

There'd be a lot fewer 3e to 4e module conversions going on if any good 4e-native modules were being released. If there are, I haven't heard about them.

Right now I'm running my players through Isle of Dread 4E, though I have nothing formally written up for it.

Later, they'll be visiting the Tomb of Horrors, The Barrier Peaks, The Forbidden City, and likely Castle Ravenloft as well.

Not to mention that some (I) feell that many written adventures are much better suited for 4e than 3e.

Check my links in sig, several good adventures are out (Trollhaunt, Demonqueen and some of the GG stuff). Of course, you may not agree with my taste.

And there is still hope for a Necro AP when/if we get a decent GSL :)

I'm doing Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. Second session done and so far so good. I'm turning it into a 11th to 15th adventure and using the Strahd from Open Grave. The conversion is somewhat loose, I'm actually creating few monsters and mostly using what's available in the compendium.
