D&D 4E Converting 4E bits to 3.X

What kind of concepts, rules etc. are you converting from 4E to 3.X?

I am pretty much set on using minions (basically: zero-hp, CR BAB, base saves) and I am looking into rituals as well - I've already been using "cleric rituals" for various spells like commune and such in my campaign, and might expand that (once I get the 4E books, that is).

Static defense scores, stronger focus on at-will and fast recovery mechanics (no more vancian spellcasting and far fewer X/day powers). Possibly the way equipment is handled, a bit to early to tell for that.

I've been using the "mook" rule from goodman games for a year. I am not sure if its OGL< so i can't repost it, but it works by creating the weak creatures into one hit creatures who go on the same initiative. All players automatically get cleave when attacking a mook.

The skill *list*. So far that's all I can find worth cribbing (unless my players force 4e on me as it seems likely).

Friend of mine said the healing surges are neat, but I'm still not sure.

I'm probably going to convert the Dragonborn.

I'm going to explore the idea of a 20-30 level spell progression in which 1st lvl PCs have access to 1st level spells, 2nd lvl PCs have access to 2nd level spells, etc., up to Lvl 20+. The main trick will be deciding which spells belong where- you know, is Spell X an overpowered 2nd lvl spell that should be 3rd, Spell Y an underpowered 2nd lvl spell that should be 1st, and Spell Z just right for 2nd level type questions. Tedious? Perhaps, but the reward could be high.

Before 4Ed, I had considered a feat-based "Multiclass Dabbler" system to supplement 3.X multiclassing, so I may do something along those lines. I'd have to change a few details though- Initiate of the Faith SUCKS!

I may take a closer look at the 4Ed level progression benefits chart on p29...or I may simply stick to Midnight's Heroic Paths.

I'm taking a serious look at Rituals, especially the one that lets you create magic items. That looks a bit more fair for feat-starved spellcasters than the feat based system of 3.X.

As an aside I've changed most magic item creation feats to 'make magic stuff for *us*' and 'make magic stuff for *them*'. The former being for items that need a magic user to work (scrolls wands rods staffs etc...), and the latter being used by anyone (arms, armor, wonderous items, potions, etc...). Naturally the *us* version is what wizards get at first level.

I run Mooks has HD = Hits so a 1HD mook requires 1 hit to kill (ie roll BAb if you hit the mook dies) it also allows for stronger mooks eg a 3HD mook requires 3 hits to kill

Skill Challenges

My DM and I are trying to convert skill challenges over to 3.5. Not terribly difficult, more a matter of making sure the DCs are JUST right. There are still some issues, but it's looking pretty good so far!

Haven't really been playing D&D much lately (switched to HARP a few months ago), but I'm a little bit intrigued by the idea of importing 3.X multiclassing back into 4e. Work it like multiclassing between different Bo9S classes-- class level = class level + (character level - class level)/2 for powers.

Probably a little bit too good compared to 4e's standard multiclassing, and I'm guessing it would throw single-classed characters out of whack, so I'd need to figure out something to balance it back out.

That's a pretty hefty change. At this point, I'm not even sure whether that counts as a 3.5 House Rule or a 4e House Rule.

I've already done conversions for the "masterwork" armors, the dragonborn, the tieflings, and the encounter templates (solo, elite, and minion) and I've beefed up the marshal to play at Pathfinder level. I've also worked on the 3e action point rules to make them work a bit more like healing surges and 4e action points.
