Converting Greyhawk monsters

Yeah, I was asking about the generic magical beast training rules, but I hadn't recalled that they were epic.

I'd also agree with adding the separate training section. Just copy from your favorite trainable monster.

If we're going for the standard separate training section it'll need a cost for a young onco, plus a cost for raising & training.

Since they can't fly, it would probably be a bit less than a giant owl. 1500, 2800, and 800 gb respectively? Want carrying capacity too?

That seems too high. Flying's a BIG advantage for a mount. A CR 2 Heavy Warhorse is 400 gp, a CR 1/3 Guard Dog is only 25 gp!

Somewhere about 800-1800 gp for a trained adult onco would feel better.

You know, I think I may have included the cost for an "onco egg." :p

How about 500 gp for a newborn onco and another 500 gp to train and raise?

Carrying capacity:
light load: up to 150 lb
medium load: 151-300 lb
heavy load: 301-450 lb

Well it doesn't say they don't come from eggs, but I think that's probably a bit too far.

Anyhow, most critters have a separate eggs and young cost, with the young being worth about twice as much, so we should probably divide it into a "newborn" and "young" entry.

Carrying capacity:
light load: up to 150 lb
medium load: 151-300 lb
heavy load: 301-450 lb

That works out right. Putting it together...

Training An Onco
An onco can be used as a mount or beast of burden, but they are so aggressive this is difficult and dangerous task. An onco requires training before it can bear a rider in combat.

Training an onco requires six weeks of work and a DC 25 Handle Animal check.

A newborn onco is worth 500 gp on the open market, while young are worth 800 gp apiece. Professional trainers charge 500 gp to rear or train an onco.

Carrying Capacity
A light load for an onco is up to 150 pounds; a medium load, 151-300 pounds; and a heavy load, 301-450 pounds.
