Converting Planescape monsters

HD are not given, but hp are identical to a blink dog (4 HD).

So, go with 4 HD?

Riding Dog: Str 15, Dex 15, Con 15, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 6
Shadow Mastiff: Str 17, Dex 13, Con 17, Int 4, Wis 12, Cha 13

Proposed Scores: Str 15, Dex 15, Con 15, Int 4, Wis 12, Cha 13

Eh? Where are you getting that from?

I'm seeing the following:

Aoskian Hounds: AC 7; MV 15; HD 22; THACO 19; #AT 2; Dmg ld10/ld10; SA bark; 52 M (5’ long); ML steady (12); Int semi (4); AL N (E); XP 120.

Now I'm presuming the 22 Hit Dice is a typo, since they've got the THACO of a 1-2 Hit Dice creature.

That suggests the "22" is most likely 2HD or 2+2HD. I'd guess 2+2 since an AD&D War Dog has those HD and a 2-8 bite and AC6, so is pretty close to those stats.

So I'm thinking a 2-Headed Riding Dog is likely the best foundation, but I'd give it the Shadow Mastiff's Str 17 and Dex 13.

Ahh, good point. I suspect it should have been "2+2".

Anyway, it looks like me stats still hold up, since it's Int is listed as 4. Cha can either be the riding dog's 6 or the shadow mastiff's 13, depending on whether we make the stunnning bark Cha-based or Con-based (I'd propose the latter).

I'd rather make it Cha-based. The Yeth Hound's bay is a Cha-based sonic attack, so why not keep these puppies' bark is in the same ability score ballpark.

Do we want to keep the 1d6 rounds of stunning? That's quite nasty.

I'd rather reduce it a round of stun followed by 1d6 rounds of shaken.

2HD with Shade's ability scores works for me. Rather than introduce a fear effect, why not make it a round of stunned followed by 1d6 or 1d4 of dazed?

I'd prefer Con-based for the DC. The yeth hound (and shadow mastiff) bay is a fear effect, which makes more sense to be associated with Cha. This seems like a more physical ability (could almost make it Ex) if we keep out of the fear business.

Well I'll go along with Con-based since you both fancy it.

Stun and dazed isn't that much nicer than stun, but fits the original description.

I'd prefer 1 round stun plus 1d4 rounds dazed.

Added to Homebrews.

I borrowed the bark radius from the shadow mastiff and yeth hound's similar abilities.

Should it get this?

Skills: An ettin’s two heads give it a +2 racial bonus on Listen, Spot, and Search checks.

300 feet radius is far to big in my humble opinion. 30 feet radius would be ample for the stunning. Besides, it'd risk stunning the very guards it is supposed to be warning!

How about it stuns within 30 feet, and the sound alerts all creatures within 300 ft?

Yes it should. Two heads are better than one.:o:o

That's fine. There's probably no need to mention the "alert others" distance. I think that's generally built-in with Listen checks.

Updated.

Skills: 11
Split between Listen and Spot?

Feats: 1
Alertness and Track (B) like riding dog?

Organization: Solitary, pair, or pack (3–8)?

Challenge Rating: 2?

Alignment: Always neutral, often evil?

Advancement: x

This all seems pretty good.

Advancement following the yeth hound, 3-4HD (Medium), 5-6HD (Large)?

CR 2? I could see CR 3, actually, but the hp are pretty low for that. We could make them a glass cannon if we want, though. The bark is pretty good.
