Converting Planescape monsters

If we can get Shade to go along with Gravity Fling, then we're set. ;)

By all means. I still say it sounds like a sci-fi sexual innuendo, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. ;)

The original seems to have 1d3 claw damage and 1d4 tail-barb damage. I'd rather the fling do more than that, but we could do 2d4 if you want to keep the damage dice the same.

What do you think abou the threat range?

Most "flinging" type attacks do d6s of damage, but I could go for mulitple d4s because nothing beats rolling a handful of little caltrops!

Well we could use a number of d6s with a similar average damage to its tail slap, I suppose.

Still, same damage as the tail would be my preference.

Aren't we referring to the "telekinetic" damage? If so, it wouldn't be doubled by a crit, right?

Let's see. Its target takes critical damage from the tail slap that triggers the Gravity Sling. We're talking about the additional damage it takes if that fling hurls it into something solid aren't we?

So, if we go for damage = tail it would be:

critical hit = 2d4 plus 1×Str to 3×Str (depending on what Str multiple we end up using).
Impact damage = 1d4 + ½-1½ Str (or closest equivalent in d6s).

Hold on, we haven't started a Working Draft!

We'd better do that once we've finished arguing about this fling.

Which sounds disturbingly like a discussion on a relationship column, come to think of it.

Let's stick with d4s. I don't have a big preference whether to use the tail-barb damage or double it for the impact. It's not a tremendous amount either way, and it can probably do quite a bit more just by flinging the victim "up."

Yes, we do need to settle on ability scores, etc.

No objections there.

I've been thinking we could use our Demarax conversion as a base model, since their both extraplanar reptiles with tail slap attacks.

Same HD, too. The demarax has Str 17, Dex 7, Con 17, Int 6, Wis 12, Cha 11, but they are a lot more passive. I'd be inclined to bump Dex and decrease Con for the ni'iath. Maybe something like Str 17, Dex 11, Con 13, Int 6, Wis 12, Cha 11? We'll want to decrease NA too.

This seems a good approach.
