Converting Planescape monsters

Maybe make it also do X (or some multiple thereof) damage per round to anything it grapples, and it's ok. I find myself wishing for some way to make it more "chaosy" though.

Well the dissolution is in additional to the normal constriction/tentacle damage, right?

Revising...

Dissolution (Ex): The touch of a nameless limbo thing can convert any sort of matter into the random stuff of Limbo. Any time the thing hits with a tentacle or grapples an opponent (regardless of whether the grapple succeeds) it does an additional X damage by partially disintegrating its target, halved with a successful DC Y Fortitude save. This special attack does full damage to objects and ignores hardness. If a dissolution touch kills a creature its body dissolves into chaos, the remains are not sufficient for a raise dead spell to bring back to life. A nameless limbo thing can suppress its dissolution power if it wishes to keep a creature or object intact.

I still think we need to add the effect on large objects. I think the 10-foot-cube of the disintegrate spell is adequate, although I could see reducing it to a 5-foot-cube since it can use it repeatedly.

I think the normal rules for destroying objects by HP damage should cover that. The original text suggests it gradually nibbled away their ether-vessel, it didn't take 10-foot or 5-foot chunks out of it.

In that case, we need to remove/rename "partially disintegrating" from the writeup, to avoid confusion with a clearly-defined game mechanic.

Looks pretty good, though I'd say the "regeneration" of the original monster actually seems to be fast healing 1. I could see increasing it a little given that it has 12HD, but it's not necessary.

Hmm, I think I prefer regeneration. We'll have to decide on a damage type that works permanently. I like Lawful- or Chaotic-aligned weapons (Chaotic weapons shift to a form that harms the limbo-thing, Lawful weapons are naturally antithetical to its being).

In either case, it ought to be more than 1/round following the usual healing boost AD&D to 3E upgrades get. Maybe 3/round?

Bumping to 3 hp/round for either option sounds about right. If we go with regen, I vastly prefer lawful weapons doing lethal damage.
