here are some preliminary stats for the molydeus:

Attack: +5 Huge dancing vorpal greataxe +X melee (3d6+X/x3); or dog bite +X melee (2d6+X); or snake bite +X melee (1d6+x plus poison)
Full Attack: +5 Huge dancing vorpal greataxe +X melee (3d6+X/x3), dog bite +X melee (2d6+X), and snake bite +X melee (1d6+x plus poison)
Space/Reach: 10 ft/10 ft

The molydeus is a true enigma of the Abyss, serving as the only type of guardian tanar’ri. Their purpose it to ensure that all greater tanar’ri do their part in the Blood War, serving as a sort of political officer.

COMBAT

A molydeus’ natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned and evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.


Originally found in Monstrous Compendium MC8 - Outer Planes Appendix (1991, J. Paul LaFountain), and Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix I (1994).


Ideas for ability scores:
Abilities: Str 25-27 Dex 13-16 Con 19+ Int 16 Wis 16-18 Chr 16+

Skills: Bluff, Climb, Concentration, Diplomacy, Hide, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (the Planes), Knowledge (any one), Listen, Move Silently, Search, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Spot, Swim

Feats: Alertness, Cleave, Combat Reflexes, Great Cleave, Improved Initiative, Improved Sunder, Multiattack, Power Attack, Quicken Spell-Like Ability, Weapon Focus (greataxe)

Here are a few drafts of its special ability entries:

Spell-Like Abilities: At will—animate object, baleful polymorph, blindness/deafness, charm person, command, detect chaos/evil/good/law, Evard's black tentacles, fear, greater invisibility, sleep, suggestion, vampiric touch; 7/day—lightning bolt. Caster level 15th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Summon Tanar'ri (Sp): Once per hour a molydeus can attempt to summon 1d4 babaus, 1d2 chasmes, or another molydeus with a 35% chance of success. This ability is the equivalent of an 8th-level spell.

Superior Two-Weapon Fighting (Ex): Because each of its two heads controls an arm, the molydeus does not take a penalty on attack or damage rolls for attacking with two weapons.

All-Around Vision (Ex): A molydeus is exceptionally alert and circumspect. Its long prehensile snake head observes everything that happens behind it, giving it a +4 racial bonus on Spot and Search checks, and it can't be flanked.

True Seeing (Su): Molydei continuously use true seeing as the spell (caster level 15th).

We can add the save DCs in once we have its Charisma bonus. Does anyone know of a 3E equivalent to affect normal fires?

curious as to why you have this one on there? it's only weapon is a 2-handed weapon. ;)

where did the glabrezu reference come from?

Looking at comparable demons...

Glabrezu: Str 31, Dex 10, Con 31, Int 16, Wis 16, Cha 20
Nalfeshness: Str 25, Dex 13, Con 27, Int 22, Wis 22, Cha 20
Marilith: Str 29, Dex 19, Con 29, Int 18, Wis 18, Cha 24

I'd recommend Str 27, Dex 15, Con 28, Int 16, Wis 16, Cha 22

I took it from the ettin since it had two heads. It probably won't use it, but it could use it. Go ahead and drop it if you'd like.

From the Type O Demon. :p I cut and pasted from the glabrezu and typed over it.

while it could benefit from an ability like this, i can't see it ever using any weapon other than it's kickass axe. ;)

Fair enough. :cool:

Instead, since it's weapon is a double weapon, we could give it Improved Two-Weapon Fighting and Greater Two-Weapon Fighting as bonus feats, on account of each head controlling one half of its weapon.

(I guess I am evil.) :D

splain, lucy? ;) i don't beleive the axe is supposed to have a head on each end, but rather in one picture at least it appears to have two heads at the top end of the axe.
