In many countries, people take their hot tea with some form of dairy and sugar. As someone who usually has tea- hot or iced- with nothing more than some lemon juice, that seemed odd to me. About a decade ago, I tried it at an Indian restaurant, and liked it. But it didn’t affect my preferences.
Since then I’ve tried Burmese and Yemeni teas that used sweetened condensed milk, and enjoyed the hell out of it! I still prefer my minimalist tea, but when I hit a Burmese or Yemeni joint, I take it their way.
One day, though, I thought why not try iced tea with dairy & sweetened? So while I was at a buffet that had free soft-serve ice cream, I tried some vanilla in my unsweetened tea. Pretty good!
When I tried it a second time, I used a chocolate soft-serve. The results were similar to an iced coffee.
Again, I still usually drink my minimalist tea, but I do enjoy the occasional tea float, and tonight was one of those times.
