Cool Meta-magic feats

Nah. SONIC. One of my players regularly demonstrates the efficiency of sonics - particularly against outsiders.

Sep, As many times as I have posted "wow" to that thread I know all about Mostins powerful sonics :) I continue my mission to make sure someday all will read your story hour.

Anyways, yeah I agree, Sonic really really rocks. He was looking for "Cool" metamagic though, it was intended to be homourous.

Are there any feats in the splat books that effect dispel magic? Defenders of the faith has a Prestiege domain with a +4 modifier on that roll. Any similar feats printed anywhere?

Looks like an empowered lightning bolt is a heck of 5th level combat spell.

Whatr are the "Good" metagagic feats?

River

Empowered lightning bolt isn't much better than a cone of cold, which is 5th level. Cone has a higher save and a larger area, but at some caster levels (9-14) has fewer damage dice than the bolt. (um, actually not fewer dice, but less damage anyway)

IMC the most used MM feat is Empower. It can be applied multiple time on a single spell, if you didn't know. Double empowered Flame Strike is for example a 9th level spell, and causes 15d6 x 2 damage. Triple-empowered endurance gives (1d4 + 1) x 2.5 more constitution (avg. 8.75, about EPIC belt of strength). It's pretty good.

Most of the time Maximize isn't as good as empower. In 1d4+1 variable spells (buffs, magic missile) the expected value is more for Empower than Maximize, even though the latter adds one more level.

About other MM feats I really don't know, haven't tested many. Quicken is of course useful, for kick-starting the combat with two partial actions on a surprise round w / quickened haste. Or quickened divine favor and charge (cleric in my group likes this).

Not all DM's (like me, for instance) will let PC's apply the same metamagic feat to a spell more than once. My stance is that, if one wants their spells to cause double damage, Twin Spell is a perfectly good feat to do that. Twin Spell would be almost totally useless (entirely useless for pure damage spells) if you let someone double-Empower a spell.

Also consider high-level Incantrix and/or Epic Level characters who can easily knock 1 level off all his metamagic feats. Are you really sure you want to allow Empowered x 4 Cones of Cold (that's 45d6 for a level 17 caster... easily twice as good as a Meteor Swarm considering its area of effect) in that guy's 9th level spell slots? While "low level" double-empowering seems harmless, allowing it at the upper levels invites serious abuses of the rules.

I'm kinda partial to Twin Spell.... even though it doesnt always work out to be the best mathematically.

Twinned Magic Missile is kinda fun ;)

Energy Admixture (Sonic) & (Cold) >no pun intended< are kewl as well IMO.

It's not from a book, but I've made a feat that (for a +1 spell level) makes that spell 4 points harder to dispel.

I can't remember the name, but the best MM feat I have come across was in Relics and Rituals (Scarred Lands), which makes a spell invisible. This rocks for Reflex-save spells since you need to have Uncanny Dodge (iirc, possibly Evasion) to even attempt a save.

The name was Hide Spell....
