All of the deities that I feel strong about (one way or the other) are gone.

I guess I will vote Hextor off, even though his clerics are such great plot devices.

Rao, perhaps?

Meanwhile...

I believe it was you who mentioned the idea that in this particular trinity it would be interesting if Heironious and Hextor were fighting over Wee Jas. Another possible scenario that occurred to me (which would solve an age old question) what if Wee Jas was mother to the war twins? The father, of course, could have been slain by either of the brothers, depending on the nature of that deity.

Even more intriguing would be if Wee Jas was responsible for the patriarch's destruction (absorbing his portfolio in the process, if you like that sort of thing), but she let one brother believe the other was the guilty party so that the great battle could go on. Or she could have simply tricked one or the other into doing the dirty work for her.

Quite a few interesting ways to play around with these deities.

Yeah, Rao. I remembered the name about an hour after I made the post. He's a good god... I've always like the pacifist gods (I once played an FR druid of Eldath that really pissed off the rest of the party).

I like the mother scenario.... especially the "absorbing" of the patriatch's portfolio! Wee Jas was originally the goddess of Vanity... when she killed her husband (god of magic), she took his portfolio... of course, in doing so, she also became a death goddess. And her two sons duke it out. Love it. I'd almost be willing to use those deities as my core religion in the world I'm slowly putting together!

It looks like Rasputin's hated Heironeous is finally going about ten rounds too late. Wee Jas should go next -- the lame name is the clincher between Wee Jas and Hextor. I keep wanting to type "Wee Jass," which should tell you the problem.

Her name. See Dragon 350 for the coolness that is Wee Jas.

In fact, all of the core gods that have gotten the Core Beliefs treatment so far are much cooler than they were before.

This recent exposure in Dragon may be the polling place advertisement that ultimately decides this vote. I can't understand the Wee Jas love myself. The impression I have of her is that she has no real strong idenitity and a portfolio that is all over the place. I guess the old adage of pleasing all of the people some of the time makes for a good deity campaign strategy.

Or maybe that god of pacifism with a name I forgot.

Ah yes, Rao, god of peace, reason and serenity. I played a Paladin of him once, and really pissed off the GM by not hacking everything to bits and attempting to use diplomacy from time to time... I wonder if it's coincidence that Rao is also the name of Superman's Kryptonian sun-god?

It was actually hard, for once, there was nobody left on the list that I loathe. :)

I picked Hextor, because, while Bane (FR) and Chardun (SL) are compelling LE dieties of oppression and tyranny, Hextor has just never seemed to get it done, coming across as an afterthought compared to 'lesser' dieties like Iuz, or that irritating johnny-came-lately failure poseur wannabe demigod they turned Vecna into. I love LE gods of oppression and tyranny, but Hextor has just been sitting around doing a heckuva a lot of not-much, while Iuz and Vecna get all the press. Sad really. His mother must be ashamed at his lack of motivation.

Wee Jas rocks. She's up there with Tritherion and Xan Yae on my list of favorite Greyhawk dieties, ever. Her recent write-up in Dragon didn't do a darn thing for me, 'though. Pity. I'm just going to pretend I didn't read that article and continue loving her, in a healthy platonic hands-off sort of way.

Heironyus, while a LG paladin-god, which are generally my kryptonite, I have a soft spot for, with the whole Achilles-origin-riff and the non-traditional weapon choice (even if they retconned him into using the longsword for 3.0). He's probably the only LG paladin-god that doesn't come across as a prig. May he smite fanatical freakshows like St. Cuthbert and Pholtus about the head and shoulders!

Actually, I just read the Dragon 350 treatment of Wee Jas, and, all I can say is, Buh?

A goddess that shares portfolios with four other major dieties, is the embodiment of LN, but the patron goddess of sorcerers because sorc's spontaneously cast, and a host of other contradictions. The only thing I took away from that article is that whoever created Wee Jas was smoking a lot of wacky tabacky and it is all a joke.

What a stupid diety.
