If you're looking for a feat that allows you to be good at a skill without risking abuse for prestige class purposes, try the following home brew feat:
Outside Study [general]
You've spent some effort to learn about something not normally studied by folk like you, though your understanding is less detailed than that of others.
Benefit: Choose one skill. Treat all cross class points in that skill as if they were not cross class for purposes of skill checks using that skill.
Example: Bob the 12th level wizard has 6 cross class ranks in the jump skill and 2 cross class ranks in the tumble skill. He selects this feat and chooses the jump skill. For purposes of making jump skill checks, he is treated as if he has 6 ranks in jump. He does not receive a synergy bonus to tumble checks because he has 6 cross class points in jump, not 6 ranks in tumble. He may not qualify for a prestie class that requires 6 ranks of tumble because he has 6 cross class points in tumble, not 6 ranks in tumble.
Special: You may not select this feat for a particular skill if you have more than 6 cross class ranks in that skill. [Note: This is more of a flavor issue to prevent a sudden leap in power with regards to a skill if this feat is taken at high level].
