Cost of creating a Ring of Stoneskin

Ferox4

First Post
This is my first attempt to Forge a Ring and I want to be certain I am doing this correctly. Let's say I want to make a Ring of Stoneskin that has 3 charges per day activated by a command word. According to Table 8-40:Calculating Magic Item GP Values in the DMG the base price = spell level x caster level x 2000gp. So that would be 4 x 7 x 2000 = 56000gp. In the table under Base Price Adjustment/Charges per day it says divide by (5 divided by charges per day). So 56000 divided by 1.66667 or 33600gp. Is this correct? And does it perform at 7th Caster Level or higher? It just seemed too low of a cost considering I can make a Wand of Stoneskin for about the same cost. Thanks, F4.

4x7x1800 = 50400 x 3/5 = 30240

+250 Gp (Material Component) x 50 =12500

So: 42740 For 3x per day Stone Skin at caster level 7 command word activated pricing.

Don't forget that the material component cost adds 12500 to the price. +1 padded armor of invulnerability costs 16k and gives 5/+1 DR all the time so triple the cost to have 10/+5 3x per day with a 210 hp/day limit is not really out of line.

More questions

There seems to be a contradiction between the Forge Ring description in the PHB and the Creating Rings entry in the DMG.

Under Forge Ring it says, "Some magic rings incur extra costs in material components or XP as noted in their descriptions." It goes on to site a Ring of 3 Wishes as an example. However, under Creating Rings it says, "If spells are involved in the prerequisites for making the ring the creator must have prepared the spells......but NEED NOT provide any material components or focuses the spell requires, nor are any XP costs inherent in a prerequisite spell incurred in the creation of the item."

I am missing something here?

Is this possibly some more errata?

Please advise,
F4

You're not missing anything, the section on Creating Rings is just flat wrong.

Don't believe me? Look up the price for a ring of wishes and tell me that spell doesn't include an XP cost.

IIRC, a "ring of stoneskin" is in the ELH. It's called a ring of ironskin, and confers a 10/+5 DR to the wearer at all times. I don't recall the price, but it is 200K+ gp.
