Pathfinder 1E Could Pathfinder take D&D's place...

It already has.
In my neck of the woods, Dungeons & Dragons is dead on the vine.

Pathfinder product sales and new player numbers have seen aggressive increases for the second year in a row.
Pathfinder Organized Play flourishes while LFR looses all WotC development and support.

Those controlling the DnD brand:
Have lost my faith. Have lost my trust. Have lost my revenue.

It is a matter of personal pride, that I have successfully converted many players to PFRPG (who started with the current rules of DnD).

@Gorgoroth : Very well said.
@ahayford : I know for certain that they do care (about me).
@haters: I know it sucks to back a loosing team. Hell I was a Sega Saturn fan-boi, I've felt that pain!

What time period is this? Its seems like D&D has always had to struggle against either really bizarre bussiness decisions and people who had no idea how to run a business.
You mean randomly screwing people over?
D&D is a trademark not a copyright. The rule sets fall under copyright.
Of course because Pathfinder is broken in a way that you can do that.

Just a quick note about this post: It makes it appear as though I said the majority of the statements you quoted, which I did not. Please edit to correctly attribute.

To answer your response to what I did say, though: the "setting glut" era of 2E and "crunch glut" era of 3E were both due to corporate control over D&D, whereas the births of both AD&D and 3E occurred when the game was in the hands of passionate individuals.

Provided they can maintain a good balance between continuing to put out quality content and avoiding too much splatbook overload? I wouldn't entirely rule it out.

My group and I moved over to Pathfinder just over two years ago and we've never looked back. None of us refer to our game as Pathfinder, we call it D&D, because that is what it is to us.

The point I was trying to make, perhaps less then eloquently, was to resist the urge to be a fanboy and personify corporations. Follow the people not the companies themselves. People like to demonize/deify entities that are created for 1 purpose, to make money. If you have people who enjoy the hobby at the helm, and are free to make the choices themselves, they can make financially sound choices that also are better for the hobby. Without the money part though these companies couldn't exist.

Not judging the merits of any corporation, but of the two concerned above, one (Paizo) is a small, non-publically traded entity with all its owners being known, as well as a known design/development staff. While the other has a known development team and an otherwise faceless ownership through a board of directors and shareholders.

Not all corporations are faceless entities, so to be a fan of Paizo is not the same as being a fan of a larger 'faceless' entity.

As an aside, though my company doen't have a fanbase per se, there are only 3 people in the corporation, and only 2 at the place of business. Though my company is a corporation, it's not necessarily a faceless entity.

The corporate status (and faceless status) between WotC and Paizo are apples and oranges. One can be a fan of the smaller corporation because everyone involved is a known factor - and not faceless.
