I know that this has been flamewared across the forums and back, but can you Power Attack on a Coup de Grace?

Certainly. But remember, you take a penalty on the attack roll for your automatic hit-and-crit :)

Can you think of any reason why not?

Yeah, obviously - CDG is a single precise blow that takes an entire round to execute - eg slitting a sleeper's throat. Power Attack is an imprecise smashing blow with a to-hit penalty.

Edit: re Power Attack not Death Blow.

What's that got to do with "Can I Ready a Standard Action"?

Power Attack may as well be a carefully aimed blow with a weapon that is difficult to wield to achieve better results.

So far for the interpretation. By the rules, there's no reason not to allow it for CDG. Even if you see it as a wild smashing blow... do you think you would miss the head of a guy who's unconscious with a big big hammer?

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to ready CdG once you have allowed the Death Blow feat. An example could be someone pointing the dagger to a helpless enemy's throat and threatening his comrades "dare to come closer and I kill him...", which of course could be done with a normal attack if you didn't have DB.

They are instead kidding about using Power Attack with a CdG.
