Unless I've done the calculations completely wrong, it takes an absolutely absurd amount of time to make armor especially full plate. 20th level dwarven master smith with +50 to craft: armorsmith [23 ranks, +2 racial, +9 int(stared with an 18, put 4 ability raises into it, then bought headband of intellect +6), +2 masterwork artisans tools, +10 (the item in MoF, forget the name), +2 mercantile background, and a few other pluses which I can't recall right now] would take nearly 14 weeks to make a single suit of full plate. Thats over 3 months, for a guy who is probably the absolute best in the world. And it takes 20-40 weeks for lower level characters to make full plate. How is that all all realistic? Unless I'm totally off, it didn't take medieval smiths the better part of a year to make a single suit of armor, or else seeing a traditional Knight would have been incredibly rare. Thoughts?

Agree!

I totally agree with you that most items take too long. The 3e Craft rules are bonkers... It takes longer to make items with a DC of five (simple stuff like a carved wooden spoon) than harder stuff with higher DCs. I don't see any way to fix it, though.
