Creating a 5e Slayer

The champion is a good (5)e version of the slayer, but if one wanted a bit more of a slayer feel then translating the power strike ability would be my suggestion.
High-level Power Strike was actually pretty similar to low-level CS dice. It was a [W] die instead of a fixed die type, and only had one rider, based on the kind of weapon the Slayer was specialized(?) in, but it was extra damage you clicked on after you hit - which is how at least some BM maneuvers work. So a 5e Slayer might be done a bit like a simplified BM. At first his CS dice would just add damage, at high level, they'd essentially get a maneuver(s) based on their Combat Style(s)

I was specifically trying to a void crit fishing class. That's pretty much what the Champion is. I also don't like the once a day turn a miss into a hit or a hit into a crit stuff.

What about possible just making the damage die to all weapons one size larger for a Slayer instead of adding together ability scores. A maul an greatsword would become 2d8 or 3d4.

Or just give a scaling 1(w) bonus to each hit with a melee weapon. It could start as a 1d4 at low levels and move up one die size every 4 or 5 levels.

Any of these things benefit the TWF more, but I'm ok with that because it feel like it needs to be a little better anyway.

Isn't the battlemaster's Combat Superiority just Power Strike 2.0?

Possibly. I haven't looked at the battle master lately. I was referring to the complexity difference and feel of the class from my observations. Compared to the 4e fighter the slayer is a less complicated class along the same vein that the champion is less complicated than the battle master.
