Creating An OGC Setting

I added a bit of "Geography" in Rhesen. Not what I intended to do, but hey, the mood struck me.

-update-
Added Coldstone (#2), Duer-Nam (#1), and Kuar (#16). Gerin is a MUCH less civilized place then Brennan.... I think the east is all humanoids & stuff, but I haven't thought of a name.

I don't know if I'll get back to it tonight, but tomorrow. It's pretty doom n' gloom right now, and I need to level it off a bit, make it interesting and a viable campaign area.

IMO, the Deep Mnts on Gerin block alot of the weather from the south, so Gerin is pretty chilly compared to Brennan. The west is alot of trackless forest n' bogs (with hags and vampires and werewolves, castles sunk in the mire and ill-fated kingdoms choked by the forest), and the east...is things that want to eat you. I'm planning on strewing some maenads around too -- they're wild sorts -- along with the usual forest suspects (elves).

A few more notes:
1) Epyr doesn't do it for me right now. An ex-empire of evil, illusion-wielding, halfling-enslaving, monotheistic, racist gnomes is just WAY too far away from the default view of gnomes to work, and it doesn't jive with the other information on gnomes on the site. Is anyone really attached to this idea?

2) I tweaked the layout of the religion page alot. I'd like to eliminate racial deities as such -- it makes for a simpler starting pantheon and better integration between the races. Racial deities unique to a race lead to racial pantheons, and that leads to ninety-bagillion overlapping deities.

3) The religion page write-ups are a little confusing, or don't jibe with information in other areas. I'm not sure how many theocracies there are supposed to be, for instance -- it looks like 3-4 (Nabut, Phaeton, Tyrran/Voreen, Thaern...I made Valorius the god of Thaern, as that puts paladin gods on either side, but Nabut is a question-mark. The theocracy of the god Nabut apparently wars with Voreen, but hates necromancy (which Rhesen practices, a little). Maybe a neutral country, east of the Edor, between the Ashen Mountains and the Shevado? That would bring it into conflict with Ruashode & Voreen over control of trade through the mtns, & place it in a "guardian" position near Zutul.

3a) I don't think there's a write-up for Nabut, actually. Just mentions in other god's write-ups.

4) Organizationally I've been pulling a few things away from the Alliance of Crowns/Pact of Thrones duality (like the layout of the religion page). The information should still be present, but I don't think it should the primary means of sorting. Fosters too much of a black/white duality.

5) Added feature template and NPC template, added lots of unwritten pages for misc stuff, added stuff to sidebar for easier navigating.

Cheers
Nell.

What if we make Epyr an ex-empire of illusion-wielding gnomes? Gnomes do, after all, have an air of mystique about them that being ex-emperors will help establish,\.

Just my $200,00.00 consultancy :P

Other than that, you're doing good.

Maybe Eypr was ruled by evil, illusion-wielding, halfling-enslaving, monotheistic, racist gnomes in the past, but the empire was long in decline, with the gnomes themselves gradually loosing interest and becoming the non-humans we all know and love...

I agree with this. I don't like the idea of an empire (on the surface, not underground) of evil gnomes. Remember this is supposed to be a generic setting, and as such strays too far from the core rules. I like the decadent evil empire, but make it of a nation of humans, half-orcs, duergars, or even evil elves (kind of Melnibonean like), but certainly not gnomes or halflings.

Another thing, if you keep this idea of evil imperialistic gnomes, change accordingly the write-up of gnomes on the races' page.

I also agree with this.

All good. Still busy. Carry on.

What, you want whole sentences?

Oh, well.

I actually like the idea of an evil decedant gnome illusion-based empire. Given that it's fallen, it isn't really a major part of the setting. But I can see I'm in the minority, so demolish the empire and free the slaves!

I agree on the religion reorganization thingy. They also need to be straightened out with the geography/nations better, I agree with that too.

I'm hoping to make real contributions this weekend,

Yair

Correction. There is a write-up for Nabut. There's no write-up for some guy called Teham, who apparently gets beat up by the Voreenians (Vorish?).

Also, I thought I'd try breaking the pantheon into two -- the High Pantheon and the Low Pantheon. The High Pantheon are the big, everlasting, Really Important deities -- pretty much everyone up there now. The Low Pantheon is for the god of daylilies, or the God of Market Street in Aandil, But Not South Market Street, Which Runneth from Ox-Cross Street to Limper's Alley. I think Tyrran, and maybe Sod, are the only Low Pantheon deities right now. The High Pantheon are the primary movers and shakers. The Low Pantheon is for flavor and fun.

I'm mulling over the Epyr thing. And Coldstone. I love Coldstone. I need to get some racial information up.

I'm still home sick, but supposed to be working on work-related computer stuff.
