Creature by Poll # 6 - Gathering Creature Concepts!

Glad to see we're still mates Krishnath :D. And since Knight Otu is letting us have another concept, prepare to have your mind warped!...

An rebel Formian wizard's arcane experiment gone wrong. In an attempt to make themselves more stronger and to change the system of Formian hives, they captured a soldier Formian and induced in him the blood of a Slaad. What they hadn't counted on was that when the extreme powers of pure chaos and pure law combined, caused an insane explosian that devolved the Formians body into a material form. However the infusion of entrophy and order had created a mindless being that they couldn't control. It has a taste for outsiders, especially Formians. Even worse, was the fact it could reproduce asexually.
It looks like a massive octopus with wobbly antennae and smooth flawless skin that shifts between mild colors such as beige, black and grey; and sometimes it body just erupts with spikes and protrusions and bright, vibrant colors.

Do I need help or what!...

Sonikal: Sounds like another aberration or outsider again, considering it's origin, I would say that it is an outsider. :D And yes, you need help. Either that, or you need to start writing horror novels. :D

Concept 2: Massive (and I do mean *Massive*) golden dragonflies from the elemental plane of air. Are sometimes used as magically controlled flying battle platforms by various planar races, particullarly formians. (21 HD, Extraplanar)

Later,

"The World Roller"

A 22 HD massive Armadillo with an ironclad hide. It moves from one feeding area to another by tucking and rolling, but does so blindly, causing more than one tragic collision with civilization. Once it finds an area with sufficient food, it roots about, devouring all the vegetation and smaller animals it can find.

There ya go, number two

The Nanite Hive

A shimmering sheet of quicksilver that flows forward and consumes everything in its path leaving behind a flat and sterile plain of polished obsidian. The Nanite Hive looks like it might be a vast ooze but infact it is a billion billion minute vermin that can only be stopped by cold or sonic attacks....

Dire Emu: Armadillos are not vermin.

Tonguez: Why is it not an ooze, it seem similar to the ruin swarm (ELH) which, although consisting of millions of diminiutive insects, is an ooze.

Kriiishnaath... :D

Well, Sonikal's second concept does have more of a vermin feel to it, but maybe if it were more jellyfish-like?

Armadillos are indeed not vermin, maybe you could make it a beetle, though?

As for the Ruin Swarm, I guess it is mostly due to the fact that they did not have the Swarm subtype back then. :D (Of course, if they are using the swarm subtype in the revision pdf, The ruin swarm will undergo some changes...

I always thought that making swarms oozes was a little odd-ball so I was glad of the creation of 'swarms' that retained the base creature type.

Now my suggestions:

1. A carnivorous swarm of insects that appear to exactly resemble leaves, a colony chooses a tree and camouflages itself perfectly (very high DC spot checks) until potential prey comes within range when they sweep off the tree and either kill the target or lay eggs inside the victim from which a new hive will eventually break.

2. Prism Moth. Variable appearance within insect species (mostly a dragonfly, moth or butterfly) this creature appears in scintillating rainbow colours especially across the wings. It attacks with prismatic spells and emits either blinding or hallucinogenic entrancing light patterns. Based on a complex natural cycle it shifts between 'colours' and emits magical and pheromonal processes specific to each colour that alter emotional states(duration of a certain 'phase' are mostly long periods of time i.e. months or years). (E.g. while in 'red' mode pheromones that bring about frenzied range are released, 'blue' spiralling depression, ) The pheromonal effects cover a scarily large area meaning that they can affect even communities some miles from a Prism moth. The purpose is unknown but intesifies in proximity to creature suggesting it is a defence mechanism.

Alternatively each 'colour' could be a distinctive sub-species which would circumvent 'changing' from one phase to another. :D:D

Knight Otu: CAN'T! HELP! IT! Ghaaa!!! :D

Arken: Well, the swarms in the Fiend Folio, range from oozes to animals and vermin, :D But I doubt they will change the Ruin Swarm... Also, I love the Prism Moth idea! How many HD do your creature suggestions have (between 20 and 24)? :D

The binder: This creature, when out side the host body resembles a humongous cockroach, but it has the ability to crawl inside a body and control it. whilst the host has altered physiology, it's shape is not effected.

No this is not from MiB
