Ok, time to figure out skills and feats, I would think. :)

I calculate that they would have 265 skill points in 3.5 – they had the following ranks under 3.0 rules, which is very paltry by comparison. I’m sure we could do something to beef that up. ;)
Skills: Listen +20, Spot +20, Wilderness Lore +30
We can either give both gender the same ranks, and let ability modifiers differentiate them, or we can give both genders totally separate ranks. (and of course, they get the customary Swim bonus.) :)

Feats: they now have 17 feats, so there should be a significant jump here also. I’d suggest not giving them too many epic feats, but maybe a few appropriate ones. Unlike skills, I do think there is a call for males and females to have a slightly different set of feats. Here is what they both had before:
Improved Initiative, Multiattack, Multidexterity, Multiweapon Fighting, Power Attack, Track, Weapon Focus (tentacle)

I think they'd be fine with the same. My suggestions for ranks are Intimidate 50, Knowledge (nature) 30, Listen 50, Sense Motive 32, Spot 50, Survival 53

Any particular reason for limiting epic feats?

My suggestions so far: Improved Initiative, Legendary Tracker, Multiattack, Multiweapon Fighting, Power Attack, Track, Weapon Focus (tentacle)

More to come when I get more time. ;)

and they sure have a lot more ranks now don't they... i guess they just don't need too many skills... :)

personal preference. i don't really think that everything over 20 HD needs a bunch of epic feats. those should be mostly reserved for high-level PCs and NPCs, and things like archfiends... and greater titans. ;)

i know the feeling, brother, i know the feeling...

True enough. ;)

Usually, its hard to give creatures more than a few anyway, since they are either completely niche or have extraordinarily high prereqs. However, I'm all for giving "dumb brute" critters with tons of HD as many Epic Toughness feats as possible. :]

Right now, the boards are the fastest they've been for me in about a month. By the time you read this, that will probably be hard to believe. :\

As promised, here are the rest of my suggestions for feats:

Awesome Blow, Cleave, Epic Reflexes, Epic Skill Focus (Intimidate), Great Cleave, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Initiative, Improved Overrun, Improved Sunder, Legendary Tracker, Lightning Reflexes, Multiattack, Multiweapon Fighting, Persuasive, Power Attack, Track, Weapon Focus (tentacle)

Whatever happened to Multidexterity anyway? Was that phased out of the game, or changed into something else? The revision book doesn’t seem to say anything about it.

As for feats, while I agreed that keeping ranks the same for both genders, I feel that having a difference between male and female is a good idea. for example, I think tracking is more of a thing for the females, since the text mentions that only they imprint and track prey. Males can have that replaced with something that suits them more, or perhaps helps to even the scales with the more powerful females.

It was rolled into Multiweapon Fighting, as Ambidex was rolled into TWF.

That's cool. Maybe give the males Great Fortitude to make up for the lower Con modifier?

These critters were really tough to give skills and feats to, since they don't really have much of a focus. Other than wanting to dominate and enslave, what's their motivation? And since they are better off wielding weapons in their tentacles, the usual Weapon Focus/Improved Critical feat chains aren't quite as useful.

They are indeed better off wielding weapons in their tentacles, partly because they have slam attacks anyway.

I had to bump up the Wis scores for legendary tracker.

how about damage reduction? Maybe 20/magic?

20/magic, although nigh worthless, is probably appropriate for a colossal aberration. Are we going to add a note about DR/jade if using Oriental Adventures, as Krishnath suggested?

Yes. :) you want we should mix that with something else? Maybe magic and good? It’s only a “freebie” that the original monster didn’t have – I wouldn’t count on it as one of their main defenses.

Weight: see the conversation in the thread about Gaumahavi. ;) they are 80-100 feet tall, so maybe somewhere in the range of 170-200 tons?

Fill in the blanks:
An opponent can attack a krakentua’s tentacles with a sunder attempt as if they were weapons. A krakentua’s tentacles have 15 hit points each. If a krakentua is currently grappling a target with the tentacle that is being attacked, it usually uses another limb to make its attack of opportunity against the opponent making the sunder attempt. Severing one of a krakentua’s tentacles deals (X) points of damage to the creature. A krakentua usually withdraws from combat if it loses (X) tentacles. The creature regrows severed limbs in (X) days.

Maybe… 7 for the first blank, 3 for the second?
