OK...I'm confused. Where did the racial bonus to Search come from? I'm not opposed to giving them one, necessarily, but the original conversion lacks bonuses other than to Hide and Move Silently.

It just seemed appropriate for something whose head is basically a whopping great eyeball.

Also, didn't the flavour text mention them being used as guards? That suggests adding a racial bonus to a skill used to spot intruders like, ah, Spot.
 

Giving 'em a racial bonus on Spot makes good sense. I'm not as wild about Search, since it doesn't sound like they are used for tracking or similar "hunting".

+4 racial on Spot?

Search on the skill list isn't super helpful for a guardian construct, but it might be useful if they take on some other task.

Regarding the feats, I like PBS, Precise Shot, and Imp Init. I don't think Rapid Shot really helps, since that would give 2 arcane arrows at a -2 penalty for a full attack action, and it can already shoot 3 with no penalty. BTW, I think we should change the "shoots 3 arcane arrows as a full-round action" to a "full attack action" to make it clear.

I'd still put a few points in Search, yes.

Rapid Shot gives an extra attack, so it would get four arcane arrows.

That seems too many, how's about changing it to:

Arcane Arrows (Sp): An oculon can fire missiles of pure force from its eye. It can fire 1 missile as a standard action or 2 missiles as a full attack (3 missiles if it uses its Rapid Fire feat). Multiple missiles can be fired at separate targets. An oculon can fire as many arcane arrows in a day as it has racial HD (7/day for a typical oculon). Each arcane arrow is a +5 ranged touch attack with a 180 foot range (no range increment). An oculon can apply any ranged weapon feat it possesses to its arcane arrows. On a successful hit, a missile does 1d6+1 points of force damage. In all other aspects, an arcane arrow is treated as a magic missile (as the spell), and thus are resisted by a brooch of shielding or the shield spell. This ability is equivalent to a 1st-level spell (caster level 7th).
 


I'd rather leave off Rapid Shot than rework the special ability to account for it. :erm:

I just left the feat stuff in to make it explicit, it would have the same effect to just cut the full attack to two arcane arrows.

Oh, and I don't like my "resisted by a brooch of shielding", I'd like to change it:
