Creature Catalogue Overhaul Project Revisited

Thanks for adding the credits. I also agree to giving Lady Hawk the Spot bonus.

You're right about Balance and Diplomacy; I forgot about those because we didn't put any ranks in them. Anyway, Shade always used to catch those epic synergies; I've been lax about looking at skills, since you've been our resident "spell-checker" for so long now. I'll try to look over things more carefully in the future.

Okay, so where were we on this conversion?

Looks like we've got Equipment, Organisation and Description/Background/Tactics to finish off.

Let's take on equipment next.

OK, the Hawk Lord has 2 +7 weapons, which is almost 200,000 gp plus the robe of eyes and cube of force for another 182,000 gp. That's a total of about 382,000 gp.

The Lizard Lord already has a +8 weapon at about 130,000 gp. We can get him a few rather nice wondrous items, in that case, about 250,000 gp worth. I know it's boring, but I could see an amulet of mighty fists +5 for him. What else do you think?

We agreed on a 400,000 gp equipment budget for the Animal Lords.

With the Hawk Lord, we spent about half her budget on weapons. If we do the same with the Lizard Lord, then we're spending 200k minus 128,315 gp for his trident, leaving 71,685 gp. That's about halfway between a amulet of mighty fists +3 (54,000 gp) and +4 (96,000 gp).

Hmm, I'd be OK with the amulet of mighty fists +4, but feel making it +5 (150,000 gp) would eat too far into our "Wondrous Item" share.

As to to item, either an iron flask or mirror of mental prowess would be within budget - although the former would be tricky to carry about! We could easily fix that by adding a bag of holding for him to keep it in, but that'd mean we would go about 2k over budget, so we might have to cut the amulet to +3. That'd leave a bit of change for something else. How about a carpet of flying to give him some maneuverability when he doesn't want to teleport around?

Flask
128,315 gp - +2 returning wounding trident of speed
170,000 gp - iron flask
96,000 gp -- amulet of mighty fists +4
5,000 gp --- bag of holding type II
Total 399,315 gp
Remainder 645 gp

Mirror #1
128,315 gp - +2 returning wounding trident of speed
175,000 gp - mirror of mental prowess
96,000 gp -- amulet of mighty fists +4
Total 399,315 gp
Remainder 645 gp

Mirror #2
128,315 gp - +2 returning wounding trident of speed
175,000 gp - mirror of mental prowess
54,000 gp -- amulet of mighty fists +3
35,000 gp -- carpet of flying, 5 ft. by 10 ft.
7,400 gp --- bag of holding type III
Total 399,715 gp
Remainder 285 gp

Either the Flask or Mirror #2 options would suit me, although I'd also be game to exchange the secondary items for something else.

I prefer the flask option; while the mirror is cool, it doesn't seem to fit his persona for some reason. I also would be fine with dropping the bag of holding from that list, since we didn't completely use up the Hawk Lord's quota.

Not for want of trying, the Hawk Lord could have done with another 20k magic item such as a luckstone or portable hole. :p

I guess I'm OK giving him a bit of spare change left over...

So shall I update with:

Equipment: +2 returning wounding trident of speed, amulet of mighty fists +4, iron flask.

[Total cost 399,315 gp; Remainder 5,645 gp]

Ready for tactics, description, and background?

Sure.

We're got.

"sometimes appears as an imperious human male with the jewelled, beaded skin of a gila monster"

In human form prefers hypnotism over weapons.

Aloof. Rarely takes humanoid form or meddles in non-reptilian affairs. When roused (which requires great calamity) is implacably angry and vengeful.

We can crib from the hawk lord for tactics, perhaps.

The hawk lord tackles most social confrontations while in her humanoid form, making use of her charming gaze as appropriate. In combat, she typically fights in hybrid form, but may take dire hawk form when in need of speed and agility. The hawk lord avoids fighting while she's a normal-sized hawk, mainly using that form for scouting and to interact with ordinary raptors.

The lizard lord prefers to fight in lizard or hybrid form, grabbing and chewing opponents as a lizard. As a humanoid, he typically eschews weapons in favor of his hypnotic gaze.

Pretty weak, but it's a start.
