Creature Ideas needed, look inside.

I might make stats for a were-octopus soon. . .

1) Race of intelligent sharks with a pair of arms jutting obscenely from the side of their heads. They tend to be Rangers or Barbarians
To freaky for my campaign. ;)
Sonikal said:
2) A hive of tiny albino, psionic crabs that all protect a gigantic, psionic lobster-like queen.
Cool, aquatic psionic termites... :D
Sonikal said:
3) Magical, human legged merfolk that can stand on waves. They tend to be Bards and Sorcerors.
I might use a variation of these.
Sonikal said:
4) A race of wolfs with a fishe's tail, like the canine equivelant of a Hippocampus.
This idea I like. But what to call them...
Sonikal said:
5) Race of big, intelligent, manually dextrous squids with a passion for evocation spells.
This idea rocks! Mini-krakens! :D
Sonikal said:
6) A colossal walking coral reef.
Now why didn't I think of that, I like
Sonikal said:
7) A large fish that floats as though it were swimming above the ocean (wrap your head around that one!)
Huh?
Sonikal said:
8) A massive exoskeletoned hybrid of Rhino and Crab.
Cool!
Sonikal said:
9) Does any know what an Ethergaunt is?. Well how about a Blue and Green Ethergaunts, two aquatic subspecies of this ethereal race.
I've actually considered making more ethergaunts... :D
Sonikal said:
10) Reef Giants; Oceanic giants that have the legs of a seahorse, as well as their head protrusions rather than hair.
I'll convert these over from 2nd edition.
Sonikal said:
11) Anglerkin; Fish people whose heads are way bigger than their torso's, and their arms and legs are stumped and webbed.
Weird, but not necesserily over powered, maybe as an aquatic equivalent of dwarves or some such.
Sonikal said:
12) Magical, prismatic Starfish that swim in swarms.
Cool idea, a swarm creature...
Sonikal said:
13) Sharkfolk; a more agressive, greyskinned, leaner Merfolk.
I like this, but what alignment, leaning towards LN or LE
Sonikal said:
14) Coral Dragon; gigantic, draconic sea-horse with amazingly colored bodies and extravagent bodily protrusions.
O.k. I just have to do this, I love dragons! :D
Sonikal said:
15) A powerful aqautic zombie that controls masse's of tentacled sea-weed.
Got a name suggestion for this creature, I love the idea, but names aren't exactly my forté.

Hey, im on a Roll!... :D

To freaky for my campaign. ;)

Ah well, they can be mine then!... :D

Cool, aquatic psionic termites... :D

Yes, but what discipline of psionics to specialize them in.

I might use a variation of these.

Go ahead, for names you could call them Wavewakers.

This idea I like. But what to call them...

Well there is Hippocampus (Horse + Fish) so perhaps something along the lines of Hippocanine?, Wulfencampus?...

This idea rocks! Mini-krakens! :D

Hmm, didn't think of it like that but I like it. Krakenkin!...

Now why didn't I think of that, I like

Because I though of it first!... ;)

Huh?

Well imagine big, flying trout without any wings that actually spend more time out of water, floating just above it.

Cool!

Better still an elephantine crab monster!...

I've actually considered making more ethergaunts... :D

Just imagine [blabbing off-topic]
Yellow Ethergaunts, Pink Ethergaunts, err... Beige Ethergaunts...

I'll convert these over from 2nd edition.

Wait a minute, there really are Reef Giants!?... Who, What, When, Why?!...

Weird, but not necesserily over powered, maybe as an aquatic equivalent of dwarves or some such.

It makes me laugh just imagining a race of squat, big-headed fat fish with arms and legs!... :D

Cool idea, a swarm creature...

Combine that with a constant flux of prismatic energy, then you've got a floating mass of spiky color!...

I like this, but what alignment, leaning towards LN or LE

Definately LE

O.k. I just have to do this, I love dragons! :D

Go ahead, i'd love to see it!...

Got a name suggestion for this creature, I love the idea, but names aren't exactly my forté.

Hmm... Kelpkeeper, Sea sacker, Morghydron...

More please!

Wait and see!... :D

Shakanu are a race of seemingly savage and cold-blooded barbarians. However bespite their feral nature they are not evil. They are just a very territorial and simplistic race. Shakanu appear just like normal sharks from a distance, but on closer inspection one may notice their apparent equipment and then the pair of arms that protrude obscenely from the base of their neck. They are normally a dark blue color, but occasionally an Albino Shakanu is born. They are considered a blessing and become leaders of a Shakanu tribe, despite the fact they are often smaller and weaker. Shakanu speak Common and Aquan.

SHAKANU CHARACTERS
A Shakanu's favored class is Barbarian. A few of the more smaller ones become scouts and take levels of Ranger. Reports have been made of a sect of Shakanu Clerics who may choose the following domains; Chaos, War and Water.

Looking over my own undersea beasties...

Anemoids, a race of small humanoid anemones.
Brainacles (limpet minds) psionic barnacles that attach to skeletons
Ectoplankton (psionic swarm)
Marine cyclops (seaclops)
Sea dragons (coral, pearl, abalone)
Driftwood dryads
Ephyra (mer-jellyfish)

I have weresquid sentries mentioned in the background of my undersea campaign. As for the rest...

1) The shark races in BPAA are the Opinaku and Sharklings. The opinaku are a "race" whose parents are sea elves and human weresharks. The sharklings are a magical halfling/nurse shark hybrid.

2) I have my ectoplankton swarms, and one PC in my game is actually a Fine Damselfish Hivemind (Swarm, Aquatic)

3) Water Striders, eh? I like it.

4) Reminds me of the seawolf lycanthrope from the 1e MM2.

5) I have my krakidan (humanoid squid) and sea flayers (humanoid octopi), as well as the tauric octofolk

6) My liverock gargoyles are like small chunks of living reef

7) The Arms & Equipment guide has a floating whale thingie, as well as the island-turtle zaratans.

8) I have shrimpies and kliklik (lobsterfolk) in BPAA, as well as hermit crabmen. There are also the Moltz, an undead made from the molted skins of shrimpies and kliklik.

9) I didn't add ethergaunts...but I did add some hags ;)

10) My version of the demon lord Dagon is that of a merman with the lower torso of a seahorse. He even spawns aquatic petitioners from his stomach pouch. (See the BPAA Backgroudn for more details)

11) My nautiloids are like this

12) Go to discovery.com and buy the "Living Seas" series. In one scene, they show a "swarm" of brittle stars. I based my sea star brambles on these.

13) How about a merfolk race based on jellyfish?

14) I have coral, pearl, and abalone sea dragons in BPAA, as well as a dragon-sized jellyfish.

15) Take the offspring of a myrmyxicus demon and an ixitxachitl. Assume it is of the vampiric variety. This gives you a vampyrmyrmyxitxachitl ;)

6) A colossal walking coral reef.

I thought of this first!:D

Actually in a sci-fi conquest game game I once played in (not DnD) I created the 'Cnidaria' which were asteroid sized psionic coral colonies which moved through space and would suck the life from planets they came across.

Putting them back in the water should be fun:D

Reminds me of the seawolf lycanthrope from the 1e MM2.

Yeah I thought I'd heard of these creatures somewhere before

just like Reef Giants

Also
During the Shark World project a race of sentinet clams was created, which all gathered around a central psychic Giant Clam Prophet who would dispense wisdom to those whom asked

Also something like the Sea Witch on Disneys Little Mermaid (humanoid upper body, cephlapod tentacles below) would be cool

I have weresquid sentries mentioned in the background of my undersea campaign. As for the rest...

Cool!. I saw Underworld a few days back, so now im obsessed with Lycanthropes...

1) The shark races in BPAA are the Opinaku and Sharklings. The opinaku are a "race" whose parents are sea elves and human weresharks. The sharklings are a magical halfling/nurse shark hybrid.

The opinaku sound cool. Did you see my Shakanu stats a few post's up?.

2) I have my ectoplankton swarms, and one PC in my game is actually a Fine Damselfish Hivemind (Swarm, Aquatic)

Hmm, playing a swarm... Why didn't I think of that... :D

3) Water Striders, eh? I like it.

Kinda like minature Ocean Striders, out of the MM2.

4) Reminds me of the seawolf lycanthrope from the 1e MM2.

Where!?...

5) I have my krakidan (humanoid squid) and sea flayers (humanoid octopi), as well as the tauric octofolk

Aquatic Mind Flayers, now that is scary!. I might make a Kraken-touched race myself...

6) My liverock gargoyles are like small chunks of living reef

Liverock. Isn't that a type of Ooze as well?.

7) The Arms & Equipment guide has a floating whale thingie, as well as the island-turtle zaratans.

Those flying whales are called Soarwhales.

8) I have shrimpies and kliklik (lobsterfolk) in BPAA, as well as hermit crabmen. There are also the Moltz, an undead made from the molted skins of shrimpies and kliklik.

Anthropomorphic crabs, shrimps and lobsters. Jesus, we could have crustacean themed campaign!.

9) I didn't add ethergaunts...but I did add some hags

Hags you say, like Sea Hags, Octi-Hags?...

10) My version of the demon lord Dagon is that of a merman with the lower torso of a seahorse. He even spawns aquatic petitioners from his stomach pouch. (See the BPAA Backgroudn for more details)

Dagon the abyssal Sea Horse, I like it!. Krishnath mentioned that DnD had Reef Giants in 1e.

11) My nautiloids are like this

Deep sea animals are cool. Better still if you give them some class levels!... :)

12) Go to discovery.com and buy the "Living Seas" series. In one scene, they show a "swarm" of brittle stars. I based my sea star brambles on these.

The oceanic world is a crazy place. A real-life swarm of Starfish, that would be cool.

13) How about a merfolk race based on jellyfish?

Jellykin?. Seriously though that would be cool. I could just imagine semi-transparent humanoids with tentacled stingers instead of legs and shroud of skin attached to the back of their head and torso.

14) I have coral, pearl, and abalone sea dragons in BPAA, as well as a dragon-sized jellyfish.

What does Abalone mean?. I like the sound of those ragon-sized Jellyfish.

15) Take the offspring of a myrmyxicus demon and an ixitxachitl. Assume it is of the vampiric variety. This gives you a vampyrmyrmyxitxachitl

Cool idea, now its just a case of pronouncing its name!. Cant we just call a Hydrovampirifiend?... ;)

My DM is running an Undersea campaign soon, and a friend on mine wants to play a LG Female Merfolk Paladin/Ranger and doesn't know what to have for a magical steed. She has suggested...

Shark
Porpoise
Hippocampus

Heres the rest of the party...

CN Female Ixitxachitl Rogue
CG Female Anthropomorphic Dolphin Bard
NG Female Ningyo Psion/Sorceror
LN Male Locathah Monk/Druid with an octopus companion
and my PC... a NG Male Wereshark Fighter

As you can tell, these are just concepts at the moment. No names or bios as of yet...

4. You can find seawolves in the 1e MM2, page 81 (my undersea campaign began as a 1e AD&D game).
Quote:

5. Mongoose Publishing released a "Slayers Guide to Kraken" PDF which also has half-kraken. I like mine better. ;)

6. Liverock is a euphemism for "dead coral". Envision chunks of rock overgrown with coralline algae, sponges, and corals; home to snails, crabs, fish, starfish, and more.

8. there are also the chuul and yurian to consider.

9. Salt hags, a sea hag-demi-lich, half-elemental bluehags, pseudonatural fish hags, etc etc

14. Abalone are a sort of sea snail. They are also eaten as delicacies.

Go with the hippocampus. A porpoise still needs to return to the surface for air, while other underseafaring races commonly use sharks. For a touch of the unusual, why not give the hippocampus a unicorn's horn? The rider is a LG paladin, after all.

Currently, BPAA has:
a tiefling mermaid
an oceanid, daughter aof a salt hag and triton
a sea haggle (communal school of fish)
a transformed human
a half-fiend/half-dragon
a triton prince
