I doubt the launch of 5e would be so low key. I suspect they will evolve 4e using the digital products and expand the digital stuff to cover previous editions. They might introduce some new stuff similar to essential classes.
They might label them Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, but I think it would be mostly compatible with 4e just with extra details and more complicated classes. I think it is unlikely to be honest. They have 3e to use and it has a lot of mind share, they can try and grab back some of the customer from Piazo with 3e content.
I do wish they would get on with some Apps, now that I have my iPad.
I think the last thing WotC would do would be to make 3.x content again. Paizo will stomp them all over the map at that game and they know it.
I could almost see a "40th Anniversary Edition" of 1e AD&D though. It would however be pretty much a pure nostalgia item. Putting out the old digital AD&D disc content or something similar on DDI could work though. It probably wouldn't make them a vast amount of money, but it would also be pretty cheap to do, and if they sold PDFs of 1e books what have they got to lose? They're all over the net anyway.
