Critical Role has released a new trailer for their upcoming fourth campaign. The trailer, embedded below, lays out the overarching premise of the plot, as well as a look at the full 13-player table that will participate in the early parts of the campaign. The trailer not only explains the background of Araman, a world whose people overthrew the gods 70 years ago, but also hints at more recent conflicts.

A description of the show notes that the show opens with the planned execution of a person named Thjazi Fang. His scheduled execution leads to three groups coming together to seek the truth behind his grim fate, spinning off into its own series.

As announced earlier this year, Campaign 4 will feature three groups of players simultaneously exploring the world of Araman in what's described as a West Marches-style campaign. Early episodes will feature all thirteen players, but the show will eventually break the groups out into smaller tables, although there will still be some crossover between the groups.

Critical Role's fourth campaign starts on October 2nd.

That’s great. I am so stealing that.
I have been teasing that the ancient wizard lords discovered the magic (otherwise unknown in Shadowdark) to raise their generals from the dead, time and again, and that it made them progressively more insane and dangerous each time they were raised, and that the BBEG is looking for mysterious sites with the help of a kidnapped historian.

I'm waiting for the penny to drop and the players to realize what's in those sealed vaults.

C1 felt more natural. I think c3 has atleast parts that were prewritten with the cast before hand. I kinda follow CR now but I don't really like their streams anymore.

While I do agree that C3 was a bit jarring and awkward pacingwise and with the plot and characters not really meshing, I really don't think it's worse than any other published adventure path. In fact, had it been "prewritten" I bet it would have been a lot smoother than it was.
Somewhat agree. Planet or moon hopping is always risky and taking the spotlight away to bring in classics is good/great but you have diminished them
I haven’t followed all of the international shows but it felt like the cast didn’t love them as much as season 2

And, obviously, Tiberius Stormwind.
Yeah, he definitely needed to go. Though I will say he had a few great moments, and I will even defend him about the time he killed that woman with a glaive and caught crap about it, when Grog murdered surrendered prisoners just a few episodes earlier.

But once he started literally cheating and trying to call in armies from Draconia? That was it.

That's it exactly.

The original group, especially in campaign one IMO, feels like a fun game night with friends - nerdy voice actors having fun together.

The new group, feels more like a bunch of people showing up to an improv acting gig.

This is why, for me, I’ve stopped listening/watching to a lot of actual plays over the last year or two.

I miss the game night vibes of early CR and Dice, Camera, Action shows.

This style is obviously what a lot of people are looking for, I just miss the other style.

Watching those early games, it’s just very obvious how much tension there is at the table with Orion around versus after he left.
