Cruise liner fends off pirate attack

Haha, point.

Anyone have any more stories of the Navy verses pirates? I love stories of the Navy righteously kicking butt (bias--I was in the Navy). :p

Technically the US Constitution still gives the government the right to grant Letter of Marque and Reprisal...it would make for an interesting concept for a modern game to be sure as a response to rising piracy.

Now THAT is a beautiful knowledge tidbit for gaming. Thank you!

Really, "pirates" is simply another word for "thieves with a boat".

Don't know why, but this got me laughing. :) Thanks!

OK, so pirates and ninjas have been mentioned, and we now need only one more topic to make this thread complete:

DINOSAURS

This thread is now complete! ;)

I have 3 friends (including one, now ex, boyfriend) who were all in the Navy. The ex-bf was in Vietnam and the other two friends were in Desert Storm.

I'd rather be the "Yaarrr pirate" than these guys..... tend to live longer that way.... ;)

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the device that the crew used to help fend off the pirate attack...

CNN reports that ship security used a "sonic beam weapon".

I just ..

I have nothing. We are now officially living in a space opera.

Welcome to the 21st century, where cruise ships carry sonic cannons to repel pirate attacks. Where we have unmanned assault drone aircraft and combat robots on the battlefield alongside regular fighters and soldiers. We have cybernetic limbs so advanced that soldiers who lose their limbs in battle can get artificial replacements and return to duty (http://www.airforcemedicine.afms.mil/sg_newswire/jul_04/AFamputeePilotLeadStory.htm).

In a typical day you can get up, get in your gas-electric hybrid car and drive down the street while listening to a satellite transmission about our space program preparing for a trip to Mars, drive by a cop using a taser to stun a criminal, pull out a portable phone the size of a bar of soap and call somebody across the country and tell them about it, not to mention show them thanks to the little integral camera. You might also listen to some music on an MP3 player that can store more music in a little box that fits in the palm of your hand than most people used to own in their entire collection. When you are done, you can drive down to the grocery and buy exotic foods from around the world, and drive home with directions from a satellite navigation system that knows where you are down to almost the exact meter and knows every road in the country.

Welcome to the Future: It snuck up on us when we weren't looking.

I think CNN had an article about this yesterday. Apparently the cruiseliner escape because they were using sonic weapons to deter the pirates. I wish i could remember the link so I can post it. I'm not talking out my rear end here.
