Cry me a river 3.5E

But is that really unique? With all the d20 stuff in print, it seems we already have a continuum of 3e "dialects" today. And before that, house rules probably had pretty much the same effect as well.

I forsee mass instability, earthquakes, meteor strikes, floods, and famines! Well, actually I forsee a time, probably this summer and fall, when someone will say "I have a question about haste" and instead of one answer, you'll get four (3.0, 3.5, d20 modern, and house rule). I forsee a lot of rules threads marked [3.0] or [3.5]. I forsee requests to have a "3.0 Only" Forum (not that we'll probably do that). Stuff like that.

Y'know, I wonder if the players of the various White Wolf games (esp. Vampire & Werewolf) went through these "growing pains" as well. I'd love to hear what they have to say on the subject of Revised editions v. the originals.

People will realize that its no use to look back and be angry.
They will move along. I forsee more unity than we expect.
Wotc are doing a very clever move to help that along.

[...I believe 3.5e will be all sweet and gold and people will change fast. Even the dorkyest goons will change their minds.
Good balance and smoother rules will win fast.
I'm sure a year from now nearly 95% of the gaming comunity will be all 3.5e with no exeption. People will start to speak the ONE language. We will live on top of the tower of babel again, high above the chaos of yesterday!!]

What I do see is a lot of new campaigns starting, whether by choice or death. Some characters just will not be viable now. You talked about one or two special material weapons, that only works if you have a big two handed weapon, to bypass the damage threshold of the other DR's. Which invalidates archers, twf, small warriors the best they can get is a d8, and without massive change the monk. The haste spell being revised means if you didn't stock up on save or die spells your characters had it at high level and if the pit fiend is any example high end fights are now going to end in a character death. True you can be ressurected but how many times can that happen? So much for making it to epic level. You can't just go back and change spells and feats, and you certainly can't change your race.

Read the 3.0/3.5 arguements. Change some of the nouns. Same thing.

Substitute Malkavian for Ranger and Dementate/Dominate for TWF/archery and you've got one of the stock rants.

The short form is that people just like to complain and posture.
