CthulhuTech - Your Opinion?

Well, I did end up getting the book. I have to say it fits quite well with what I would like to play.

I prefer having the Cthulhu stuff in the background and adding spice instead of overwhelming the setting. I like that too the Mythos has been warped and changed, it is fun to notice little things that are changed, almost like a game into itself.

I find the Mecha rules quite elegant in their simplicity, especially given how it mirrors ordinary combat. The Engels are wonderful, and will probably use them in at least one game.

I too like the three games in one book, idea. I like being able to explore different avenues of the game world through different eyes.

-So NEG agents tracking down illegal sorcerers and confiscating tomes.

-Mecha and Engel pilots battling against the "Bugs", I know my group will have fun with call signs and military lingo with this.

-Tagers tracking down the cults and slipping into the shadows to unleash their other-half.

It just seems to work nicely together, without stepping on eachothers toes.

I also like how the setting is loose enough to alter. For instance visually I will be altering a fair amount of things, I plan on making the NEG cities extremely bright, sterile and filled with primary colours. Also changing "New Tokyo" to "Tokyo 3" (some people may get the reference).

Hmmm... I can see that this isn't the game for me. No wonder it was kept out of my hands, heh.

Now, I don't need stats for Great Old Ones or whatever. But... Nah, this just doesn't sound like my cup of tea at all. And since two of my all-time favourite games are Call of Cthulhu and Cyberpunk 2020... That's a surprise.

Or maybe not? Maybe I already have ingrained into my head how a CoC/CP game should go, and this one sounds too dissimilar to that? Could be.
Well, you could track down this *gurps* supplement

1. I really like me some Lovecraft. I own - and have played - Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu, GURPS Cthulhupunk, Delta Green, and Trail of Cthulhu.

2. I bought Cthulhutech, read Cthulhutech, and gave it away - it's anime with added drows and a "Mythos" stamp on the cover, nothing more, maybe less.

Nah... I'll give it a miss this time, heh.

GURPS never grabbed me, and why settle for less than the best? The original CoC-based system I use is fine, and ToC is a good second.
