Cthulu's Warlock...

You mean Hastur? Why won't you write Hastur? What could possibly go wrong just because someone wrote Hastur?

If I was really funny, I'd now ban you and never say a thing.

"Hey, has anyone seen Arani around since that Cthulhu thread?"

Besides the invocation for Evard's black tentacles, any suggestions on a warlock whose power is granted by the great old ones?

level 13 (Unlucky, eh?)
I'd say you don't have to change anything other than the flavor aspect. Just use the appropriate descriptions. For example, a frightful blast would take its effect from the tiny, instantaneous view it gives you of the horrors of the Far Realms.

I would keep the same spell lists and give them different names and different special effects. It is all about description and delivery rather than reinventing everything.

You could also go the controversial Derleth elemental association route:

Cthulhu = water
Cthugha = fire
Hastur = air
Tsathoggua = earth

And so on. This theory breaks down when it's pointed out that Cthulhu is imprisoned underwater, but hey.

Cheers,
Cam

Well, you could say that the element is what imprisons them. Hrm, that wouldn't work either...

Oh well.

I hope Phil Reed reads this, and gets the notion to publish, "13 Tentacled Evocations for your Warlock".

It would be even cooler if he published several such pdfs, each with a dozen or so themed evocations, though I dunno how many he (or anyone else) could squeeze out of the idea. (But at least a half dozen themes popped in my head the night I read up on the Warlock.)

The Cthulhu Bunch

Is that winking smiley face the Yellow sign?
Everytime someone mentions Hastur I think of Jan Brady. Only she doesn't say "Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!"
Back to the topic at hand: I agree that the description will set the tone every time. If you could work some of the Hexblade spells into Invocations, Hound of Doom could easily be Hound of Tindalos. Any mind control or enchantment works.
No I have the crazy idea of making a Yog-Suggoth bard. Oh Danny boy the pipes the pipes are calling...

Grim

Hideous laughter?
Magic jar - Thing on the doorstep
Planar ally?
Dismissal / Banishment- The Dunwich horror
Invisability- The Dunwich Horror
Invisability purge- The Dunwich horror
Clone - The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
Water Breathing?
Obscuring mist- Stephen kings "the Mist"
