Custom Spell: Ready Object

reveal

Adventurer
Player made spell. He's asked to be able to research it. As with the feat, I ask for opinions. :)

Name: Ready Object
School: Transmutation
Level: Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V
Casting time: 1 swift action
Range: personal
Target: one weapon or small object
Duration: instantaneous
Saving Throw: no
Spell Resistance: none

This spell takes one weapon or object on your person that you could normally draw as a move action and places it in your hand ready for use. If you do not have an empty hand when you cast this spell it has no effect.

hmm, takes up your swift action and a spell, basically gives you quick draw for one action but for a broader amount of object...

Sure, at face value I'd allow it, I don't see anythin gwrong with it.

Looks fine, I was planning on making one that did the exact opposite, something on the lines of Sudden sleight of hand..

Looks both balanced and reasonable to me. Also rather cool.

*Yoink*

Edit: though I'd be tempted to make it Conjuration (teleportation).

You also might think about making it a cantrip. It strikes me more as that
very nice by the way I have images of yoda popping his lightsaber into hand.

Neat spell. I agree with the 1st level assessment, though I might be swayed to think 0 level. And, yeah, Conjuration, not Trasmutation.

Very nice. 0-level is probably fine, although if you think it's really between 0 and 1 you could always say that when you prepare the spell you key it to a specific item so that it's only a cantrip but only works for that item (you could use multiple slots for multiple items). In practice, I'm guessing there's just one or a few items you want to ready swiftly like this anyway. Or, as a 1st level spell maybe it could be used to either ready OR sheathe/stow something as a swift action.

Here's a spell to compare it to that is rather well tested.

Retrieve
Transmutation [Blue]
Level: (0), Sor/Wiz 0
Components: S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft + 5 ft / 2 levels)
Target: One object weighing less than 25 lb.
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None (object)
Spell Resistance: No.

You call to your hand an object you have placed arcane mark upon. This spell fails if the object is secured from flying freely through the air to you somehow.

Arcane Focus: You must have placed an arcane mark spell upon the object for it to be affected.

Basing off that cantrip, I'd say continue to enforce the arcane mark requirement. The improvement would be teleportation instead of flying through the air (keep the ranges of the two though) I'd be tempted to make it 2nd level though if it's a swift spell.

Also at 1st level is this number...

Switch Costumes
Conjuration (Teleport) [Blue]
Level: (1), Brd 1
Component: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Instantaneous

You simultaneously teleport all clothing and armor you wear into a specially prepared chest and teleport the clothing in that chest onto your body as if you had just put it on. The weight of all gear transferred this way cannot exceed 10 lb. / caster level.

Arcane Focus: A specially prepared chest worth 500 GP. When this spell is cast the chest must be within 100 feet of you per caster level.

Switch costumes allows more weight, but requires a VERY expensive focus to use. Come to think of it, in light of these I'd say your player's spell is alright.
