I actually like the spawn. I'm sick to death of the drow. The next time I see Salvatore, I'm going to kick him in the junk.

Hey, Dragonspawn are the reason I'm not getting any WotDQ minis this time around. I had the money earmarked for two cases of minis. I love the fire elemental and some other minis, but I don't want to get stuck was a metric assload of Dragonspawn. If I did a lot of DDM by itself, I might not care, but I use the minis primarily for D&D.

For the record, I got 3 cases of WotDQ. 144 mins, 8 dragonspawn (6%) - 1 green, 4 white, 2 black, 1 blue. I use the minis only for D&D.

I don't like how DnD monsters are presented, and this just takes them further away from me.

I think I'm going to plan a campaign arc revolving around the usage of the dragonspawn.

Spawn of Tiamat... The new drow?

No, no, the new desmodu. Drow have always had a good reason to be popular - some awesome modules, a well-liked series of novels. The desmodu were pulled out of thin air in an attempt to make "the next big thing". Remember Deep Horizon? MM2? Savage Species? Those bat-squatches were everywhere! And they didn't take.

The theory about trying to create something with traction seems the most plausible to me for explaining the dragonspawn hype glut. After all, the Fiend Folio was the attempt to create the next githyanki, remember? We got ethergaunts, kaorti, shadar-kai and nerra out of that one. For this experiment with creating a lasting impact on D&D, instead of taking the buckshot approach (throw a bunch of extraplanar humanoids to the all and see what sticks!), the designers are going for something more focused, a laser beam of dragons right into the eye of the gaming conciousness.

Let's see if it works - I think the dragonspawn have some potential, and can forsee myself using them. I just wish that WoTC would present them on their own merits and let them be for a while instead of cross-promoting them to the point of OD.
