D&D 3E/3.5 (D&D 3.5) Is Monkey's grip worth it?

When you're buying a weapon, sure ... but what about the other instances? When you find a weapon as part of treasure, there's no guarantee it'll be exactly the right size for a halfling -- doesn't the randomization table make it more likely it'll be sized for a Medium creature?

Also, being able to use your enemies' weapons against them if they're disarmed, or after you've killed one, can sometimes be awfully helpful. Monkey grip would help with that.

In our campaign, we've run into some pretty good weapons ... only one of them so far has been one our halfling rogue could use properly, and that's because it has the sizing property.

Does it?

Seems highly situational to me.

Was he prevented from wielding medium one handed weapons as small two handed weapons, or medium light weapons as small one handed weapons?

A good DM will custom-tailor her adventure so that the treasure most likely to be used by the halfling will be size small. If your DM is a jerk and doesn't, consider demanding a for the DM to allow any size medium item to be traded in town for a size small at no extra cost.

As for stealing the weapons of your enemy, that sounds like Grade A belly aching to me. Size medium creatures don't complain that they can't use ogre weapons, and for that matter, they don't complain when they can't use the goblin weapons you little buggers have no trouble picking up!

Size Medium creatures especially don't complain about not being able to use ogre weapons when they have Monkey Grip.

Solution to wanting a large greatsword: Ask your local Magic-User to cast Enlarge Person on you. The worst that happens is that you lose 2 AC. The best that happens is that you get an extra couple points of flat damage, an extra d6 of damage, and you gain Reach from 5 to 10 feet.

If you're really worried about a drop to your AC, tell your magician friend to cast Shield on you as well. Tell him you'll keep him nice and protected, and then go and smash anything that dare stand between you and your mighty blade.

Of course, Monkey's Grip stacks with that...

...and doesn't require the mage even exist...

...and has a duration of forever.

... or play a Duergar, they gain the Expansion power as a racial ability. Starting with level 7, they even become Huge when using the power.
