D&D 3E/3.5 (D&D 3.5) Is Monkey's grip worth it?

as everyone already said its not as good as power attack, but I think its slightly better for one handed weapon (sword and board type) fighters than it is for 2 handed weapon fighters. 2d6 to 3d6 for the greatsword isn't that great (not bad either) but 1d10 to 2d8 for a dwarven waraxe/bsword seems better (2 dice means you'll never roll a 1 again!). Since 1h weapons don't get the double power attack bonus the difference between monkey grip and power attack is narrowed. But Statistically monkey grip isn't that great, unless maybe you also have quick draw and can quickly switch to another more accurate weapon. But now you've spent 2 feats on something that only takes you one feat with power attack. The other advantage is if someone casts Enlarge on you, you are now wielding a Huge weapon (but i don't think the PHB provides dice for huge weapons).

If you're starting at a low level and want to have an big friggin sword from the start, take monkey grip and use the substitution rules in PHB II to get a new feat when you can afford it later. However, if you are a fighter with a high Strength, weapon training and high to-hits could justify using both Power Attack and Monkey Grip.there's no guarantee it'll be exactly the right size for a halfling -- doesn't the randomization table make it more likely it'll be sized for a Medium creature?

crazy monkey grip.

we play on a huge grid we made on canvas, so the movement/reach rules are very important to our game.

one of the PC's is a goliath (powerful build) with monkey grip who fights with a spiked chain. just look at it. the reach alone is insane. he can disarm people that are 35 feet away! with combat reflexes and a decent dex, he controls a huge area of the battlefield. sick.

Um...powerful build and monkey grip don't stack.

However, if you DO want 35' reach, try taking Inhuman Reach (Aberrant Feat) &
Deformity (Vile Feat), while learning any combination of Stretch Weapon, Enlarge Person, Righteous Might and Expansion (psionic power).

Strong in the Dark Side this one is.
