[D&D 3.5] Pirates of the Broken Sea - OOC [recruiting open]

I'm not gonna pursue the chain much further. I was at a loss as to what feat to take at first level. I decided to take PBS and go two-weapon fighting for ranger at 2nd, then I'd have both bases covered.

It's a good choice. Heh. A two weapon fighting pistol firing dwarf? Color me grey and call me gandalf, I've seen everything already.

Kutyak the necromancer and his monkey posted in the RG.

I take it that you are aware that a wizard doesn't start out proficient with pistols? I was going to point that out, but you describe him as the "worst marksman on the Broken Sea" and have a -2 penalty to hit on the character sheet. So it seems you have taken this into account already.

And jack, the damage for your half-orc's pistol should be 1d10 instead of 1d8. Unless it's supposed to be a derringer, which for some reason seems absolutely hilarious in the hands of a big and very short-tempered half orc. :p Yeah, I have a strange sense of humor.

Yep, I know I'm not proficient with pistols, but I'm sure as hell gonna be shooting anyway!

BTW the bonuses are wrong. I'll change them now.

for the sake of humor then, Ill keep it as is lol. Ill make it a full round action instead of a move action, and keep the damage then?

Ok, looking back, apparently my post from a day or so ago did not go through. I was waiting on a reply to apparently nothing. Oops. So, question - Scribe Scroll as a feat, do you implement the XP cost for scribing scrolls? Or do you ignore it? Some DM's ignore, some don't thought I would ask now.

Also,Eschew Materials is listed as a MetaMagic feat in some locations, while not in others. Do you consider it a MetaMagic Feat?

I should have this guy ready to go this evening.

Hmmm, well I'd not really considered that, while Wizards and Psions are not proficient with all simple weapons they are proficient with Light and Heavy Crossbows which would seem to fit quite well with pistols. Its really a big gimp if they don't get proficiency to and makes it pointless for them to start with pistols.

Since pistols are not simple weapons by the rules it would seem a lot fairer imo to say that all pirates gain exotic weapon proficiency pistol as a free feat rather than arbitrarily excluding classes who don't have simple weapon proficiency.

I wasn't being serious. 1d8 would be the damage for a small pistol, naturally, and your character wouldn't be able to use it properly. I'm just letting you know you had the wrong damage die listed, rather than say nothing while you rolled it in combat.

All magic items require an XP cost, there's no reason for scrolls to be different, particularly when the costs are fairly low.

As per Eschew Materials:

SRD said:
Eschew Materials [General]
Benefit
You can cast any spell that has a material component costing 1 gp or less without needing that component. (The casting of the spell still provokes attacks of opportunity as normal.) If the spell requires a material component that costs more than 1 gp, you must have the material component at hand to cast the spell, just as normal.

Since the SRD lists it as General, it will be considered General here.

I'm just going to keep it the way I had it.

Guns are cool, but in the end, it's 1d10 versus all kinds of cool abilities we'll never get. And once we run out of ammo, they make nice clubs... which you can use. ;)
