D&D 3E: the Death of Imagination?

Gentlemen, we can disagree without being disagreeable.

rounser, I tend to agree that complaining can have some merits. However, everything in moderation.

For myself, I do not find 3E limiting my imagination or that of people in my group. Do we disagree about rules at times. Yes, but we try to have reasonable discussions in our disagreements.

Let's get back on topic and avoid any actions that might tempt the moderators into closing this thread.

I think we have a different interpretation of what "the truth is somewhere in the middle" means, given that you're parroting back to me what I meant. :)

I don't know.. my nemesis in college looked cute in grey, but she was too smart for me.
I had two nemesises back in college - one male, one female, both redheads but otherwise unconnected. The only "cute" they introduced into my life was a-cute paranoia during my honours year.

Hey, Tom. So are your players not going with the statements in various portions of the books stating that 'The DM is always right.' etc? Man that would be annoyin as hell...

"The Canucks are SO winning the Cup. -- barsoomcore *coughCloutiercoughNotcoughGonnacoughHappencough*

Man, you are so wrong! GO RANGERS! (Not that I think they'll win the Cup...I just want them to make the damn playoffs!) -- Tom Cashel

Oh, and go Red Wings. -- Joshua Dyal"

Ahaha...man I got five letters for you guys...S-T-A-R-S! That's the name that's gonna be on Lord Stanley's Cup come the end of this glorious hockey season! :)

You could be right! I mean, the Stars have won it by

CHEATING,

why not try to win it fair and square?

25, assuming that it's clothed, and climbing someone draws an attack of opportunity.

Surely it would depend on what the Giant is wearing?

Loose knit jumper would provide plenty of hand-holds and should be no harder than say 15. Even loose cloth would only be 20 at most. Sure if your Giant is wearing latex then 25 would be fair. Oh I agree about the AoO.

Yes, everyone has the right to complain. Except about house ruling Harm ... that's just plain wrong. :) Oh, and for the sarcastically-challenged out there... THAT is a troll!

Personally, I'm too frightened by Tom's new avatar to argue anymore...

So let me state it clearly:

D&D 3E stunts the imagination.

I say having consistant rules does exactly the opposite - it frees people from having to think about them so they can get on with the business of creating a story.

It is the sheer volume of rules in 3E that contradicts your otherwise correct thesis.
