[D&D 4e] IG's "The Witchlight Strand"

"I reckon those might indeed come in useful but tell ya what tho, I gotta be some pretty bad way before id taste that goblin muck. I patched him up as best as I could which is to say not much at all but I dont think he is getting any worse. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether hes in need of some tonic but say now cos otherwise I'm gonna take my axe here and cut a few long branches and lash up a quick stretcher with some rope and my bedroll. Then lets get him on it and get out of here."

The captain and crew are curiously silent to Aridha's suggestion, but she takes it in stride and rejoins the others. There is, of course, a small temptation to just leave them to their own way and move on without them. They would only slow her down now that the ship was gone.

But despite only knowing them a brief time, she couldn't in conscience do that. The wild had teeth and claws for the unwary or unwise...

"I can help with that," she said on hearing the plan for the stretcher. "I'll also scout ahead, see if I can find a good place for a campsite."

(GM - Rolls?)

Captain Zeke finally speaks. "Wanton destruction indeed." He scratches his bear and looks at his exhausted, bleeding men, and then to Pier, resting peacefully. He scratches his beard, and heaves a great sigh.

"Me and my men will help with camp tonight. After sunup we'll be headed back to Port Magalie. There's plenty of us, and we're all handy with a sword, so don't you be worryin' about us. You lot are welcome to come with us, but I expect your business in Hania will make that decision for you."

[sblock=Aridha]A Nature and Search check should suffice.[/sblock]

"Right you be Cap'n. We do be havin' business to the East. I be believing that Lady Aridha has the right of it though. T'would indeed be much safer to be travelin' with us. Besides, we were attacked down stream an' that be where ye be goin' to head back to Port Magalie"

He will then put out his hand to towards the Captain. "If ye still be headin' back to port, I wish ye a safe and speedy journey"

After hearing the Captain's response, he will turn towards the stretcher builders, and offer his help to tie the wood together.

"Aye, that is something I was not expecting." Jude replies simply, he carries his blade in his hands, hefting the familiar weight with a look of guilt as he slowly sheathes the weapon. "I am glad we were at least able to save some of the men, that is most important." he adds softly.

The warrior will add his stength to any efforts on building the litters and setting up camp, although he does it quietly, introspectively.

Aridha finds a clearing several yards from the bank, along with a few fallen branches that look sturdy enough to carry Pier.

The clearing is small, but adequate. There is enough dry wood for a fire, should you chose.

"My men will help keep watch," Zeke says after everything is settled. "Be hard to sleep out here knowin' there's goblinfolk about, but we best get to tryin'. Might be needin' our strength. If any of you are hunters, Orlan'll cook you a fine breakfast."

Zeke looks around the camp, and up into the sky and the glow of the Witchlights. His face asks the question that his voice does not. How did I get here.... A gurgling cough breaks the silence.

"Looks like your friend is gonna make it."

Pier opens his eyes and looks around carefully. He sighs in relief to see that he is not apparently a goblin captive. "So I guess we won? Doesn't feel like it." He checks his wounds before falling back into a doze.

Once camp is settled and watches are set up, Vatan will try to talk to his "crew" out of the sailors' hearing. (continued in the OOC thread) After that he will sit against a tree and clean and dry his weapons, leaving his bow strung, and sword unsheathed.

[sblock=OOC]As for watches, Vatan is easy. He doesn't think that he will sleep much tonight.[/sblock]

Aridha, for her part, agrees to give the ship crew the gold, as she doesn't see it being of particular use to them on their trek. It might be useful as a gift to the new king when they arrive, but it seemed a pretty paltry amount for a royal gift and might even offend more than nothing.

Better to give the men some hope...cover their meals while they sought something to replace what had been taken.

"We've a long journey ahead of us now," she says to herself, gazing reflectively at her hands. "With any luck, we won't have to cross too much of the goblin's territory."

Of course, so far luck hadn't been with them. Maybe things would change.
