I find the poll options too limiting. I never saw the cartoon series as a kid, and it looks ridiculous to me now. It still seems better than the first movie by far, but that doesn't make it good. Moreover, the second D&D movie was about as good as an episode of Hercules or Xena, so for me it edges out the cartoon series.

Seriously, what were you on?

I sat in the theatre, to hear people cheer when that character die.

I was stunned, then later I understood why. People did not LIKE the character portrayment at all.

In fact, I didn't like how the movie was made either.

Come on, Snails was awesome. They even had the Sliders main character as the other thief.

See Snails was the star ofthe show!

The second movie cannot 'edge' out the cartoon, not by a longshot.

The Hercules/Xena was much better done than the 2nd one. And cannot be ciompare to the cartoon.

Both are seperated by style and substance, during their make, in their time era.

Jerry O'Connel was not in the original D&D movie; Justin Whalin was. Justin played the role of Jimmy Olsen at the beginning of Seaseon 2 and for the rest of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Okay, I saw the second movie now... and as the rest of you guys, I must admit it is more D&D than the first, but it still sucks sweaty badger balls...

No offence but do you mean the 2d version done by the guy who did Samurai Jack or the one currently running?
Either would be great but I suspect the only way anything like it will be done if its done by someone unconnected with WOTC since they would only mess it up.

The animated series pwns the first movie, and still holds up pretty well in its own right (big Sheila the Thief, Eric The Cavalier, Karina and Venger fan). I haven't seen the TV movie or animated Dragonlance.

Yet.

The first movie was just wretched.

Aside -- Some cartoon sidekicks rated from most obnoxious to least:

Scrappy Doo

Bat-Mite

Orko

Gleek the Wonder-Monkey

Gudzuki [Godzooki?]

Sebastian the Cat

Snarf

Spike

Bandit

Uni

Goliath the Lion (Young Samson)

Blip the Space-Monkey

Avenger the Eagle

I'm leaving off tons of other heroic (and otherwise) companions for the sake of brevity...:heh:

Indeed. The D&D cartoon has been on continous reruns (and getting decent ratings) since the 80s.

When they first announced a D&D movie, I was insantly hit by the image of Lindsay Lohan as Sheila and Gabrielle Union as Diana.
Now this is an interesting idea...interesting indeed...If they were going to do a non-animated film based on the original cartoon series, who should they cast in the different roles?

I'd like to see Wallace Shawn in the role of Dungeon Master.
