After discussing this with the wife, I think this is a no go. The killer is the fact that it is Washington in late February. If the weather was nice, the wife and kids could go site seeing. Holding a con that far north in the winter is dumb. :\

DC is can be pretty cold that time of year unless it is an early Spring.

The cool thing is all the sites are free (your taxes paid for them). So all the Smithsonian museums, monuments, art galleries etc are all free to enter.

RPGing basically started because of cold weather. ;) D&D in Geneva, Traveller in Bloomington, and Judges' Guild down in balmy Decatur! Wisconsin and Illinois's winters were the genesis of the game! :p

Holding a Con in the dead of winter makes perfect sense to me.

and the name of the show for a decade before this was Winter Fantasy. It's supposed to be cold and have as much snow as possible (we used to be in Fort Wayne and Chicago and it used to be in January - so even colder and more snow). The show fits the time frame we want for our feature show and it sit's in the middle of a large play area for the RPGA (Gencon Indy sits in the middle of the other obvious one).

Dave'll know better than I will, but the way consupport.com is set up you don't have to pay for your tickets immediately, I don't think. It's probably up to each convention how long they allow unpurchased tickets to stay in your cart for, though, so it's best to ask Dave. I doubt you have anything to lose by adding them now, though. You might come back to pay for them and find they're gone, but you might be pleasantly surprised!

Tickets will remain in your cart for 3 days if unpaid. Once paid you of course are all good. So remember to pay for them or you'll find your super-cool schedule is back to square one.

Also we have sold almost as many tickets as we did in two months of pre-reg last year in 3 days this year. So if you're on the fence it's time to hop off it. We will have tickets for most events onsite as well but in VERY limited quantities. So pre-reg is your best bet.

While it's "cold" in DC in the winter, there are TONS of things to do inside. And the museums won't be so damned busy! I'd say that Feb. is the PERFECT time to come see the Smithsonians and the epicly awesome International Spy Museum (not free, but worth every penny - especially for the kids!).

The Universe and I will be headed down from the MD 'burbs. I'm SUPER excited. If people are interested, maybe we can meet for a sort of ENW breakfast, lunch, or dinner somewhere on one of the days? We can all dish about our 4e experiences!

Squeeeeeeee! SO EXCITED!

After shamefully missing so many enworld game days, I am really hoping to drag myself and some of my good-for-nothing players to this. And I would love to meet some other enworlders. Hopefully work travel won't intervene.

On DC in February: Yes its winter. And yes, you can hop on the metro, and head right down to the mall, where the museams won't be nearly as crowded as when it is warm.

Well if there is anything I can do to help with you guys meeting up as the coordiantor let me know. I am not sure we have the space set aside for a meeting area but I might be able to whip up something. We can also make sure my HQ staff and such are informed as to the where/when/why part so those wandering can be pointed in the right direction.

I agree, but it should be like done like a college bowl game and be held in a spot where people actually want to go in the winter time. Some place warm like Orlando or Atlanta.

That's something to think about.
