D&D famous songs

Li Shenron

Legend
Hey, I just got this very silly idea... :)

Long ago there was a thread here where ENWorlders posted a not-so-serious poem around a D&D theme, and it turned out to be one of the funniest thread I have ever read on this messageboard!

Why don't we make a similar thing, this time by writing D&D-oriented parodies of very famous songs?

Obviously, only if the moderators think it would be appropriate... :uhoh:

As an example, I am going to start with possibly the most famous song ever:

Yesterday (Lennon/McCartney)
...or a song about how hard it is to be a high-level character...

Yesterday... all the dragons seemed so far away,
now I need some cover to hide away, oh I believe in yesterday

Suddenly... I'm not half the hit points I used to be,
there's a shadow draining all of me, oh yesterday came suddenly

How she had that clone I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, and my wish is lost agaaaaaain...

Yesterday... spells were such an easy game to play,
now I have to face beholder rays, oh how I long for yesterday

Ooo ooo ooo ooo oooooo....

Not fully accurate, but sounds like a Wizard missing her early days :heh:

Dunno if this will get moved to Hivemind. Anyway, I posted the following on the "Is 3.5e still D&D to you?" thread quite recently:

It's Still D&D To Me
(with apologies to Billy Joel)

What's the matter with the sword I'm swinging?
Can't you tell that it's too mundane?
Maybe I should buy some leather armor.
How much gold don't you have anyway?
Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey?
You can't fight monsters 'til you spend a lot of money.
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new game
Funny, but it's still D&D to me.

What's the matter with the horse I'm riding?
Can't you tell that it's out of style?
Should I try to raise a baby griffon?
Yes you can, but it'll take a while.
Nowadays you can't be too sentimental,
Your best bet's a half-dragon half-elemental.
Pokemount, riding dog, half-celestial dire frog,
It's still D&D to me.

Oh, it doesn't matter what they say in the papers,
'Cause it's always been the same old scene.
There's a new game in town but you can't get the sound
From a story in a magazine
Aimed at your average teen.

How about a suite of stat boosting items
And a keen holy flaming burst lance?
You could be a really great hero baby,
If you just give it half a chance.
Don't waste your money on a rod of negation,
You get more mileage from a ring of protection.
Heavy shield, animated, heavy fort, mithril plate,
It's still D&D to me.

What's the matter with the class I'm playing?
Don't you know that it got the shaft?
Should I try to play a cleric/wizard?
If you do then you must be daft.
Don't you know about the new options honey?
You get to stack your saves and your base attack bonii.
It's the next phase, new wave, balanced play, anyways
It's still D&D to me.
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new game
Funny, but it's still D&D to me.

Sighs. I miss the annual Bard on the Run lyric fest on Dragon.

I believe that if many hardcore Dragon readers have it their way, there'd be no Dragonmirth, Knight of the Round Table, Dork Tower, Nodwick, Zogonia, or anything related to humor in the magazine. Thank goodness I'm not all-too-serious.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to take my Jedi robe to the dry cleaner. ;)
