D&D has been cancelled (speculation).

Tell you what.

If, from now on Wotc won't issue some kind of monthly print periodical (be it a magazine, be it some kind of supplement) to assure a minimum of relevant D&D presence in the real world, well the OP has a point.

No. Even if WotC never printed another D&D product and required all of their staff to wear t-shirts with the phrase "Revert! Revert!" printed on them, the OP would still be nowhere near having a point.

D&D? CHRISTMAS HAS BEEN CANCELLED!

I remember when it wasn't like that. Those were the golden days of DnD forums. Everyone was happy. People politely discussed thier characters, their games, thier ideas and thier dreams. A cancer has crept into the forums and turned them into twisted versions of thier former selves. I blame Orcus personally.

It wasn't Orcus, it was Vecna. But I can't tell you this because it is all top secret. I'm dead. :heh:

No, it's Orcus.

Even though monthly print periodicals appear to be in trouble across the board, and Dragon was showing signs of sinking before WotC decided to go digital with it?

Where are you getting this information on Dragon magazine from, I thought the magazine was doing good for Paizo when they were publishing it in a print format.

Absolutely. A particular product investment may perform at an accounting loss but that investment deemed as a necessary part of a strategy for your whole business plan and profits.

If D&D wants to retain a time-resistant value of public awareness and recognition it needs some real world presence.

I do not believe that the red-box can do it for the middle-long term. A periodical that would get street-level exposure illustrating some cool maps, fantasy art, cards, calendars and the like along with some tabletop rpg goodness articles would be something that could work.

I am really curious who the license would revert to in this case.
Well, it's a complicated situation legally but as it works out the license will actually revert to... me.

Don't worry, I intend to treasure D&D as I turn it into the kid-friendly manga-based CCG it was always meant to be!
