D&D has been cancelled (speculation).

I asked my magic 8-ball and he told me the rights will go back to Gary Gygax, then someone will be shuffling through an old box and find his notes on his ideas for a new edition of D&D, they publish it and everybody loves it!

Personally I thought my magic 8-ball was on crack, but he seems to believe it ...

Edit - I take that back. It would need to be an individual reverter or one in favor of some new company.

While WotC Inc ceased to exist in 2009: Corporations: Registration Detail

WotC LLC is doing just fine: Corporations: Registration Detail

My guess is that if there is a reverter, it probably runs in favor of the old Garfield Games shell company.

Uhm, aside from the fact that it's more a rumor than a leak, IIRC the rumor was about the property of WotC (including M:tG) reverting back to Adkinson if Hasbro ever gutted D&D.
But, again... it's just a rumor, to the best of my knowlegde.

If so, then Peter Adkinson is simultaneously the greatest evil RPG genius ever, and a bigger fool than I thought.

Cognitive dissonance FTW!

Since we're talking crazy-assed conspiracies... here's one that I'm putting out there for poops and giggles:

The designers over at WotC, sick of their corporate overlords (the HASBRO suits), have been plotting to kill D&D since 2008. That's right; 4th edition was a deliberate attempt to kill the line, piss off the D&D fanbase and get HASBRO to sell D&D on-the-cheap.

That's when Paizo (bolstered by the success of the 3.X-based Pathfinder game) would swoop in and save the day... taking WotC's rebellious designers with them.

There would have to be a major collusion over several generations of staff changes, to pull off something like this. All it takes is several "whistleblowers" to defeat the scheme, with Hasbro/WotC firing the instigators.

That would also imply that they would have been trying to make 4e as awful as possible, and since that's clearly not the case... I'm calling this one 'busted.'

That's why I filed it under "crazy-assed conspiracies". ;)

The sad thing is that I wish that HASBRO would cut WotC (or, at least, the D&D brand) loose, though that's highly unlikely.

Actually, I take that back. If true, then Peter Adkinson IS Vecna...

Hm, this fits with the rumor I heard, which was that whoever possesses the Hand and Eye of Adkison will control the fate of D&D.

Of course, whoever controls the Sword of Gygax might have something to say about that.
