D&D Kre-O Is Out, Apparently

Does anyone care? I guess it's been out for a while. Anyway, there's a commercial for it and everything.

Interesting that they're using the Dungeons & Dragons logo from 4e. I was hoping they would redesign the logo for the new edition.

Also interesting that there's no dungeons or dragons. Why are they using the D&D IP, again?

Actually interesting that it seems to be an actual wargame, and the figs come on round bases (based on LEGO measurements, they're conveniently around 25mm in diameter).

There's your IP!

...I own it all. >_>

I guess it's been out for a while.

People were scalping it on Amazon as early as late January but I didn't see it showing up on store shelves or websites until mid February.

They probably will.

I think this is pretty clever. Everyone recognizes the name Dungeons & Dragons, and KRE-O needed an IP to compete with LEGO's generic Castle line. The sets are castles and knights because it's not designed to compete with LEGO's Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit sets -- those are for collectors. Hasbro is trying to nab a younger audience.

If the line survives (which I think is a long shot, but not for any reasons relating to D&D), expect to see more themed sets later, but for now this was definitely the smart way to launch. A White Plume Mountain or Keep on the Borderlands playset would have had a comparatively limited market.

...But holy crap do I want that Keep on the Borderlands playset.

The randomized figures, at least, come with stat cards. I haven't opened any of the standalone figs to see if they do as well. The website images do not include them.

Kind of disappointed that there are not that many sets. Lots of named figs, but I want some sets to play in! Otherwise, you're just selling me fancy legos that I could buy for cheaper at a con from the custom Lego booth.

I dunno. Those custom Lego booths can be pretty expensive.

I bought that one for my son.

The products are actually very cool, and totally compatible with LEGO (plus the Kreons have better articulation than Minifigs).

My kids (4 boys) are lego fiends. If these turn up at a reasonable price (maybe Amazon and free shipping to NZ) then I'll be getting some too, for sure.

I suppose this is the last of the Neverwinter fallout, which is nice.

Not that any of the Neverwinter stuff was terrible; it's just been really cringe-worthy to see the MMO come out so long after the novels and 4e tie-ins (so long that 4e was dead by the time it came out), and then this tie-in so long after that.

I hope they've learned how to coordinate product lines better (or, if it's impossible, not to try).
