The local sports station was interviewing Anthony Munoz (Cincinnati Bengals) about the Freezer Bowl and he stated that during the game a lot of the players chose not to wear long sleeves because they wanted to intimidate their opponents.

This brings up the houserule...

No Armwear in the Cold: The character shows how tough he is by exposing way too much skin when in cold conditions. If the temperature is 29F or below the character gets a +1 macho bonus on intimidation attempts. (see Chainmail Bikini rules for more info on exposing way too much skin)

perhaps the ranger is in short sleeves because he only *comes* the frozen tundra, but isn't there at the moment. The majority of Minitures maps aren't all that cold in location, so he dressed appropriately for 'warmer' climates.

The Wildice snow bear is probably only sporting his spring coar of fur too....
That's how we always dress up North. Sleeves are for weak southerners.

PS: All of us also have huge arms that we like to flex and the pants are made of fur.

Re: the ranger, sometimes if you're out in the cold but you need to be moving your arms around alot, you go bare-armed:

When you are moving about you are often warm enough to not need warm clothes. During long travels or when you sit still you need them. I could imagine that the ranger throws off some kind of heavy jacket when he is expecting action.

A bit contrived as an explanation but not illogical.

Quick question: what are the blue-/red-/green-colored bands along the left side of the cards? Faction indicators or something?

That's correct:
Red = Borderlands
Blue = Civilization
Purple = Underdark
Green = The Wild

And I think the priest looks like the Younger Empereror from Nausicaa, actually. It's a nice mini, though.
