D&D Minitures from GenCon

Hey, everyone, I was curious about something. At GenCon, I ran a couple sessions for the RPGA. During that time, a guy came around and offered a selection from a box full of the new D&D minitures. I grabbed a lizard man figure. On the bottom, it says "Gencon2, Any 5 / Lizardfolk" I recall seeing some minotaur figures in the box he was holding, as well. My questions:

Did any one else get one of these figures? If so, what did you get, and under what circumstances?

Does anyone know if my figure would be the same as figure #35 listed on the ENWorld news page for Sunday?

Would the fact that is says "Gencon" on the bottom affect its value or collectibility?

By the way, when I showed it to my gaming buddies, they were generally impressed with the quality. The paint job does look pretty good, and the base appears to be the same molded piece as the figure, not glued on like Mage Knight figures are (not that I'm gonna pry it apart to test it :) )

thanks,

FM

They have that info on the bottom of the base? Cool.

I heard some other people got miniatures, including Entry Packs, though I can't say as I wasn't at Gencon.

Yep. It's one and the same figure.

Who knows. Personally, I doubt that even the Rares in this miniature line will be all that expensive.

By the way, when I showed it to my gaming buddies, they were generally impressed with the quality. The paint job does look pretty good

From the pictures I've seen, that Lizardfolk DOES look pretty nice.

Oh yeah? Good to hear. A while back I was playing HeroClix with my nieces and while lugging them around, I dropped my Hulk figure and he broke off his base. I glued him back on, but I'm not all that certain of his stability on that base, now (Especially since you gotta grab him and twist him to change the numbers on the clickie base). Glad to see these're one piece.

Okay, I am now totally convinced.

This is HeroClix under a different brand name.

I didn't like that game, so I am gonna stay far, far away from the D&D version.

Are you talking about the miniature info on the base? It's on the bottom of the base, so it's not as if you'll normally be able to see it. And all they put was the alignment, name, and point cost. Not as if they put the miniature's stats on the base.

WoTC was giving away 3 different figs at GenCon, a different one eash day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and all three on Sunday at the RPGA signup table in the dealers room. I picked up all 3 (lizardfolk, orc archer, & elf ranger). The GenCon2 marking indicates that it is the 2nd GenCon promo figure. The others are marked GenCon1 and GenCon3.

Here is a picture of the 3 figs from ebay (not my auction, just linking for the picture) GenCon promo miniatures

Weird... I got a promo mini from my LGS for preordering the Miniatures Handbook, I chose Lizardfolk, and it wasn't anywhere near Gencon and yet has the same Gencon2, Any 5 on the underside of the base. I had just assumed it was a point value for a standard game and then a point value for a Gencon game. I figured they were going to run games at cons and that the lower point total meant for bigger battles as each player could field more figs. Hmm, maybe a WotC type could weigh in?

There were three promo miniatures given out at Gen Con. One was an elf ranger (Gencon1), one a lizardfolk (Gencon2), and the last an orc archer (Gencon3). The other notation (Any 5) is the lizardfolk's point cost.

While I do think the fact that these are promo minis affect their collectability, it doesn't affect their playability. And I am almost 100% sure that all of them come in nonpromo versions in Harbinger.

I hope that helps.
