Why all the gnome haters? Gnomes are cool and flavorful, just ignored a lot.

Half-orc is statisticaly the weakest race, with a penalty to 2 stats for the +2 strength. They don't get enough other stuff to make up for it (I think they could have a few interesting tweaks, like double-axe as a martial weapon and/or a few extra skill bonuses)

The half-elf has almost no niche at all. You really have to stretch to find something the half-elf can do that you can't do better with either an elf or a human. The 2 +2 "Face" skill bonuses don't save it. Off it goes.
Only if you use the multi-classing rules as written, does the half-elf gain any advantage over an elf. And I know a lot of people don't.

1. Not in Tolkien.
2. Are they forest fey-like? Are they Tinkers? Are they tricksters? WTF ARE GNOMES ALL ABOUT!!!!!??? Every time someone tries to handle gnomes, they add another weird layer to this way overly confused race.
3. -2 STR +2 CON stinks. Shoulda been -2 STR +2 INT.
4. Do we need a second Wee race?

Elves must be punched. In order to facilitate this, I suggest we nail their feet to a conveyor belt and arrange a line of orcs with spiked gauntlets at elf-crotch height.

Off the island and back to your Swiss banks!

Gnomes are completely unnecessary. They combine features of dwarves, elves, and halflings, without a distinctive niche of their own. When they're gone I'm going to vote out the half-breed races, for similar reasons. The four core races without which D&D just wouldn't have the D&D flavour will then go to the wire. Maybe I'm biased for having gotten my start with Basic. Or maybe I'm biased from loving Tolkien too much when I was a kid. Or maybe it's just that Tolkien was smart enough to realize that if you want to represent the unification of all the good races in the face of a big enough evil, you put elves, dwarves, humans and halflings together in common cause. The rest are just for people who get bored without endless variations.

*sigh*

Elves.

1. Not in Tolkien. The man was to dignified to let some elf enter him.
2. Are they forest fey-like? Are they toymakers, bakers, and cobblers? Are they noble? Are they man-hating nazi supremacists? Are they wizards? Are they druids? Are they bards? Are they swordsmen? Are they wise? Are they frivolous? Are they one with magic? Why do they have to study it, then? Are they one with nature? Why are they genetically disposed to detecting secret doors? Do secret doors grow on trees? WTF ARE ELVES ALL ABOUT!!!!!??? Every time someone tries to handle elves, they add another weird layer to this way overly confused race. Without removing anything, which makes them munchkiner and munchkiner... Except for point #3.
3. +2 DEX -2 CON stinks. Who wants to be Mr "1½ hp/level" ?
4. Do we need a second nimble race?

Early predictions (Before looking at the current results) Gnomes get deported first, followed by either halflings or half-elves.
After both of them are extinct will come half-orcs, and elves.

The last survivor will be humans.

The Auld Grump's sidekick prediction network...

*EDIT* Wow, looks pretty close to what I expected right now...
