So basically, if you go to D&D XP and post anything of substance about what you heard or saw, you are violating a contract that you have to sign with WotC.

Baldman Games - DDXP News - HUGE DDXP 2012Updates

Baldman Games said:
The D&D Special and Seminar area will be in a special fenced off area. You cannot enter this area without having a valid NDA on file. No exceptions. No cameras or recording equipment will be allowed without prior approval from BMG and Wizards of the Coast.

Are there any plans that anyone has heard of to officially release the seminars? Or any press with access to release info?

I heard something to the effect that the seminars will be open. Only the actual playtest will be NDAed.

I wish WotC was more open about things, though. The lack of concrete information on 5e is frustrating. But I can understand given the huge freakouts that people had during 4e reveals. Though, I don't expect 5e to be any less polarizing once mechanics are revealed. No matter what they do, some people aren't going to be happy.

I am pretty sure we will be getting ENWorld coverage. Maybe also videos of the seminars posted online.

And people will violate the NDA.

So you basically want a longer period of time for people to be unhappy? ;)

I 100% support their desire and right to protect information at this point.

(Not that I'm not really curious....)

But even with my full support, it strikes me as really bizarre how they are going about this. The police state appearance they are creating seems like they want to appear set out against their fans.

Obviously I don't think they mean that. But history is already repeating itself in their ability to create self-inflicted PR blunders. They are going to get enough crap no matter what they do. They should not add to it.

It would be better to move the whole thing off to a private affair than to fence off what will be the major point of interest in what is a supposedly open to the public event.

Well, DDXP has always been "the cheap convention". Baldman Games attempts to put it on for as little money as possible.

I once asked why it was in Fort Wayne and I was told that they got an amazingly cheap deal on the convention space, so it would be there until the end of time or under they lost the deal.

Getting space off site costs more money. Plus, they are running D&D Next games in normal slots, just like all the Forgotten Realms and Ashes of Athas games being run. And time is tight on slots. You're often playing one game in the morning and when it finishes, you have 5 minutes to get to your next game. They kind of have to be nearby.

Fair enough. But it is still WotC's PR that is taking the hit.
WotC can control how they do these things, even if it means not doing it at DDXP in the first place.

Again, I have no argument about them being extremely private about the whole thing and putting absolutely everything under NDA. I support them. But the image coming out, fairly or not, is negative.
