D1: Ashin's Commission (El Jefe judging)

"Whether they can cure the disease or not, they'll still have pretty much taken over the area. If they cure the disease, the people - at least the cured ones - will probably be grateful at least, and if they don't cure them, well, they're already here and there's less sane people arguing with them."

OOC: I'd say that Almayce would rather have the conversation at a distance.

OOC: That leaves it up to Zaeryl: Guard the prisoners very securely and miss out on the conversation, or give them a little running room and follow every detail.

*Zaeryl will make sure the prisoners don't move. He knows that Almayce is rational, and thus has a fair idea what the elf is going to say. He also expects Michael to likely contend somethign crazy like 'The Fallonese only want to help bring cookies and flowers and sunshine'. He'll keep an ear out for anything that sounds like a vote or debate on letting the prisoners go, but he doesn't need to follow all the details of the conversation.*

Michael considers a moment, decides he doesn't really have any allies at this point

ooc: This inter-party strife has been aggravating me for a while. In Ironwolf's opinion, attempting to continue to work together as a group has become pointless.

IC: Ironwolf looks the others over, trying to decide who he still trusts. Strangely, the only one he's immediately inclined to put his faith in is Hulgyr. He definitely doesn't want to travel with Michael or Zaeryl any further, each for different reasons. The others... perhaps he should meditate on the problem further before acting.

"Then there's also the long term plan we need to figure out. Walking straight into Kinthriver, the camp or Duvik is quite naturally still out of the question."

"If attacking the problem head on isn't the answer, what should we be doing? If there isn't more to this than fighting a disease -- and I don't trust Fallon a bit, but they may not be the primary problem -- this is a mission for a team of healers not a team of adventurers. We're spinning our wheels, we don't have the information we would need to come up with a plan. Can either of you holy men perform some sort of divination to get us pointed in the right direction?"

"We could try to sneak in somewhere somehow, but I don't think anyone of us is expert in that field. We could try though. We could also try talking with one of the priests around if they leave the camp, or try to make contact with the Fallonese commander."

"Technically our job isn't to save the people, it's to find out what's going on, and we've technically done that. We also still need to find out what happened to the silver delivery though.", Almayce says. "But I'd prefer to see what's going on myself, since I doubt Ashin will be too happy if we tell him what some Fallonese soldier said."

"I'd prefer trying to sneak into Duvik at the moment I think. With luck we'll be able to avoid the soldiers."

"As for divinations, I can only get an answer whether doing something would bring good or bad results, and even that is limited. And I don't have the needed materials to cast the spell. So no, nothing useful."

OOC: Next level would open up a few options as Almayce is taking a wizard level. Charm Person and Disguise Self could be useful. Though we need to do something before that.

"If the place is quarantined, Ashin's silver is likely inside...and I'd advise him to wash it thoroughly before he spent it."
Michael ponders a bit.

"If we can find the stockade, we can speak to the priests there. I doubt a priest of either Aswan or Grendath would tolerate any sort of underhanded dealings or dishonesty, so we can trust what they say. Based on that, we can decide how to wrap Ashin's commission up and make new commitments. It may also be that I can do some divinations as well, though not much better than Almayce's."

(OOC:I do have Craft points and Craft Misc Mag Item: between those can I get a set of Augury lots?)

OoC: Ok, I've given this some thought, read the SRD, and read Patlin's response to my question in General Discussion.

I'm not really comfortable with using Craft points during an adventure unless, as Patlin pointed out, there's some evidence that preparation had gone on before the adventure. Per the SRD, I'm supposed to charge you 1/3 of the value of the item. But that doesn't make sense to me, considering that you're foraging for raw materials, not buying them. So, I'll give you a DC15 roll to forage suitable raw materials. You can do that today, and once each day thereafter...maybe more times a day if Michael does nothing else but. Once you have the raw materials, it's DC15 again, with a -2 on your die roll to make that check since you don't have artisian's tools. We'll multiply your adjusted die roll by 15, and thats the sp worth of the item that you make in a week's time...you'll need 250 sp worth to finish it. So, Michael can get his augury sticks, but it's going to take a few days.

Ooc

I had thought of making them polished stones, which is in keeping with Sela as the goddess of worked stones.
Michael has a defined habit of picking up stones and polishing them: it hasn't been called out so explicitly for a while, because there hasn't been much writing about down time.
That polishing is supposed to represent the creation of magical items like periapts or major components of an amulet.
I hadn't intended to use it for creating augury components, but it could work.

If that's not acceptable, Michael is not willing to hold up the group for two days, and we'll just have to think of something else.

Now that you remind me, I do remember that. Given that, it makes sense that Michael has the raw materials, and can proceed directly to crafting the tokens.

Since the SRD doesn't explicitly say how many hours a day must be spent in crafting to earn a craft roll, I don't have a problem with Michael doing this as a "spare time" activity. Meaning that, unless he spends the entire day in some particularly demanding activity, he has time during breaks and rests to craft, and can continue to craft without delaying the party's adventuring. Of course, if the party wants to wait until Augury is cast to do anything, they'll have to wait a few days. But I see no burning need for that.

Although Hulgyr remains silent through most of the 'negotian/interrogation' with/of the soldiers he shares his thoughts when Michael asks for them "Them soldiers here prolly don't be lying. Though what the army is all about.. I think it's no good at all. I'm not shure what we do about this disease thing. Michael should say what we can do about it, he is the cleric-healer-man. Hulgyr only knows about making wounds, not fixing them."

ooc: sorry about the silence from my part. I've been quite busy irl. I'll try to post more regulary. As a note to el-jefe: when can we see some xp goodness? I think we haven't seen any in about 4 months... maybe more.
